Hey Chad!!! You Sittin' Down?

You'll never guess what I did tonight?

Not that you sicko!!!!!!

I twisted a....gasp...FLEMISH STRING!!!

I decided that if I was going to goof around with making wood bows again I might as well learn how to make "the devil's strings". So I found a web site that had instructions and plans for a jig.

The first one took me about an hour or so to make because I had to keep untwisting the second loop to adjust the countertwists in the bundles so it didn't look like two twisted ropes.

Black & brown and bracing my 55" Root Brush-Master recurve. Round as a pipe and slick as snot. I can't even get endless strings that round. Hell if I ain't proud. :)

I'll have to order some tan & white Dacron to go with my black. Gotta make some three bundle &quot;beagle strings&quot; you know. As cheap as B50 is, I can afford to get creative. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I'll still use endless Dyna strings for the new recurves though. At $27.00 or so a spool I'm not going to make two or three color strings them.

Hey Guys...
Jason bought the Torges tape on making a bamboo backed osage longbow! He's getting down right primitive! As far as shooting longbows..... he shoot mine better than I can. Dick

Yep...'tis true, I'm working with that horrible yellow wood too.

I've got my first R/D osage/bamboo bow in the works now. Lord willing it'll turn out alright.

Next thing you know I'll start knapping or something. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Where did you find the instructions for the jig and flemish string? Tell me more about the tape on making the bow.

The tape is Dean Torges' latest, &quot;Hunting The Bamboo Backed Bow&quot;. It's available from most trad suppliers (Three Rivers for example).

Here's the link for the flemish how-to...

JRW could you please slow that stupid deer down that runs across the bottom of the screen? I've taken three shots at him and have only succeeded in hitting the back wall of my den twice. I still can not find the third arrow! Maybe if he was slower I could nail him! <img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Jason, If you had told me that you wanted to learn how to make flemish strings, I could have showed you. As far as the Torges tape, I watched it and decided it wasn't worth the effort and tooling expense. Anyone want to buy it? Dick

Great, fine, wonderful. You tell me this AFTER I bought the tape? Sheesh!!! (just kidding)

I sort of decided yesterday that I wanted to learn how to make flemish strings. Basically one of those &quot;what the heck&quot; sort of things. They're a lot easier than I thought they'd be.

Of course...if Chad can make one..... <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
