Recurve poundage

I need a little help. I am surely not an expert on traditional archery gear.

A friend asked me today if I can do anything to lessen the poundage of his recurve? He said that it is 65lbs at 29" draw.
Is there any way to decease the weight or should he just start looking for different recurve. It was his uncles recurve, so it was handed down to him.
I took a guess and told him that I believe that string length may change the weight but that I was not sure. Sorry I do not have much info on the bow only that it is a one piece wood bow.

I appreciate the help in advance.

A bowyer can take off maybe 5-6 lbs at the most depending on the bow

Yep--what Jim said. Depending on the glass thickness, bow design, etc. a good bowyer may be able to reduce the draw weight some, but not much.

Changing the string length will change the draw weight maybe 2 pounds max.

One could get his arms shortened..........Probably not cost effective though.

There are recurves that are adjustable, can't remember who made them, but the bow you have most likley is not.

Suggest that he sell it or trade it for a bow of lighter poundage some bow forums have a trade thread
