Anywhere from 16 to 24 feet depending on the situation

No one can tell you what the proper stand height is. It depends on what trees are available, terrain, foliage and experience. I've been sucessful in stands 6' off the ground and as high as 20'.

If I ever thought of hunting 6ft of ground is just hunt off ground

I haven't hunted from a tree much in the last few years--not at all last season--but when I did, I usually got as high as possible--20+ feet if the tree allowed it. The reason being is the deer around here look up. That's the reason I've all but quit hunting from trees...I've been busted over 20' up. Did kill my biggest buck in a 12' ladder stand...in TN.

I have some on the ground and others any where between 12' to 25'.
