My "New" Fox Reverse Handle Longbow

I received my "new" Fox reverse handle longbow in the mail today. I say "new" because it is slightly used as the result of sitting in Arrowsmit's vast collection of bows for a period of time.

The bow is more beautiful than the pictures posted by Vic and me. And does it ever feel good in my hand. I haven't strung it yet nor nocked an arrow, but I will tonight.

Chad,

Can you post, or send me a copy of, those longbow rules? <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Methinks you shoud watch what you say, you never know who is lurking on these boards.

Congrats on the new bow, are you bringing it this weekend, or should I not ask about it in Mom's presence?<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

BTW, it is the first anniversary of my 29th birthday, 30 just sounds too old.

I'm glad it got there in good shape Bill, & hope you enjoy it. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Well, &quot;vast collection&quot; may be a little bit of an exaggeration but I do have way too many. Don't believe me? Just ask m'wife! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Sure wish I could keep em all, but it really don't make sense when they just sit there beggin to be shot. I guess a guy can only use so many bows, so I'm thinning em out by selling the ones I haven't spilled blood with. Take good care of her Bill, she's a sweet lil virgin. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Rey,

SOME things are best left unsaid! As for your age, 30 is nothing. Remember, I hit 55 a little over 3 weeks ago.

IF, you want a real nice recurve for a birthday present, you decide!

RE: My "New" Fox Reverse Handle Longbow

Vic,

I shot her this evening. Whoooeeee! It sure is sweet!

The 60-65 cedars were grouping real nice, but were low and left of POA about 4 or 5 inches. The 2114, I only shot one, was hitting my POA, but it is too light. I heard a bit of a twang from the string when I shot it.

With no twists in the string, the brace height measured 7.5&quot;. I measured that from the throat of the handle to the string.

Did you get my e-mail this morning?

Bill

Yep, I got the email Bill but I'm out of &quot;the business&quot;. Again, I highly recommend RRA for your arrow needs. Fantastic arrows/shafting & they come from the old school of customer service. I believe you'll be very pleased w/both the service & the products. As for the brace ht on the bow, sounds pretty close to where I shot it at. I always measure recurve BH from the deepest part of the grip, but on a longbow I use the edge of the shelf closest to the string. (The &quot;belly&quot; of the shelf? Don't sound quite right huh? LOL!) Anyhow, I shot it at approx. 7.25&quot; measured from there, which would prolly be very close to what you got. If I were you I'd play w/that a little to get her tweeked in really good for you. As for the arrows, sometimes a &quot;non-cenershot&quot; bow is gonna group a little different, at least till you find the &quot;perfect&quot; arrow. I'd bet 50-55# (or maybe 55-60's) would do the trick at 28.5&quot; BOP. Hey, I'm pretty sure that RRA will send you a pack of &quot;test arrows&quot; of different spines. Might be the best way to quickly realize what she prefers at your draw length...?? Please keep me posted about your adventures w/her. Happy shootin Bill!!

Vic,

I'll keep you posted. I'll check with RRA and see if I can get a six pack of test arrows. Would it be best to ask for them unfletched so I can bareshaft test?

You can bet I'll have fun shooting it. At least I will after Chad posts those longbow rules! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Bill, I'm the wrong guy to ask about bareshafting, but lots of ppl swear by it. I've tried it & it does work if properly done, but I (personally) don't like the results I get. (LOL! That'd call for a flame job on &quot;some&quot; sites!) I'm sure most suppliers (RRA included)would furnish either finished arrows or shafting, plus you'd undoubtedly get the raw shafting much faster.

RE: My "New" Fox Reverse Handle Longbow

Bill, I've bare shafted as well as paper tuned and I still prefer to just attach a broadhead and shoot them. The arrow that hits where I look consistently, is the one I use.

RE: My "New" Fox Reverse Handle Longbow

Before heading out to work this morning, I adjusted brace height on my Fox longbow from the existing 6-5/8&quot; to 7-3/16&quot; measured from the string to the stringside of the shelf. I went out back and shot a half dozen rounds of two arrows/round. It grouped real well, was much more silent than yesterday evening with the 2114s and hit at or very near my POA. Once again, I shot random distances from 7 to 12 or 13 yards.

When I settle on which spine to use, I'm going to get a dozen RRA arrows and start poking many, many more holes in my bag target! It is FUN to shoot a traditional bow. And if I ever get the longbow rules down, I do believe it is going to be the most fun of all!!

Bill
