What to do?
 

I found a great deal on a vintage Kodiak Mag a couple years ago. 52" 50 lb at 28" now here's the problem Im 6'4" and a 30 1/2 inch draw with a recurve. my 60" bow is a breeze to shoot but I'm struggling with this one. Im very inconsistent and dont know if It is a waste of time to shoot this. Should I sell or can it be done with practice. Any one else out there with a long draw shoot a very short bow? Finger pinch is not a problem, but I feel like im pushing the limits of this bow. Any info would be appreciated. Doug.

That's pretty short for someone your size/draw length.Since your shooting well with the other either the bow is to short for you or the arrows aren't properly matched to the bow.Are you sure the limbs are straight?

It can be done with practice, but it may drive you nuts in the process. You might hang on to it to use in tight hunting spots--small blind, crowded tree stand--but I'd go with a different bow for most of the time.

I draw around 31" (give or take a little, depending on the riser/grip) and have shot several short bows. I didn't keep any of them for myself. Longer bows are just easier and more fun to shoot.

A 30.5" draw is definately pushing the limits on that bow. It might hold up, might not--a chance you take with any old bow.

If the money is an issue, I'd sell it and pick up a Samick Sage. I've shot several of these and they handle my draw just fine.

I appreciate the info. I looked at the Lancaster Archery website and at several Samick Bows. The Sage Calls out A max draw of 28" I will look into that further. The other bows are all 60" So I like the idea of a 62" bow. Money is not that big a deal. I would like a very durable bow as I shoot a couple hundred arrows a day. Again thanks Doug.

When you have a long draw length, longer bows are more forgiving than short bows and you don't experience "finger pinch".

I have a 30" draw length and I prefer to shoot 66" length recurves for both bowhunting and informal target shooting.

I just checked out the Blacktail website. It is apparent that the Kodiak Mag is way too short for me. Time to buy a new bow. Darn! Shooting my longer bow is so much more enjoyable. I will look at several maybe even a longbow and make a choice. I will probably end up selling this kodiak mag, As it's of no use to me. Thanks fellas for the help. I am thinking of a 45lb bow for whitetail as I'm still recovering from a nasty shoulder seperation 2 years ago. What do you think about that for whitetail size game?

There are lots of recurves 62" and longer--check with 3 Rivers, Kustom King, Lancaster, etc. ILF bows are getting very popular.

I've had no problems with the Sage, but I haven't shot one on a regular basis (I prefer my longbow).

Norm at Blacktail prefers longer bows, but like anyone else opinions vary. If you were to read up on Shrew, Black Forrest, Centaur, etc. you'd find they offer pretty short bows for longer draws.

As far as the draw weight, see what is legal for where you hunt. 45# is more than enough to get a pass-through on a deer. Just be sure you get a weight you are comfortably in control of.

I tell you what you should do with that bow; you should donate it to an old man that will take good care of it. He will shoot it daily and wax her string. He will make a custom hand made quiver for it and treat it with loving care.. He will probalby give it a name like all his other bows so that it will feel at home.
