Favorite Veneer?

Getting in the mood for a new bow, but can' t decide what veneer or riser wood to go with. Any suggestions?

RE: Favorite Veneer?

For me, the riser is easy, dymondwood. As for a limb veneer, I guess it just depends. My new bow has a shedua quarter cut veneers which I really like. One day I think I' m going to have to have some bocote veneers. I really like the heavily figured woods.

I' ve been kinda thinking of combining Cocobolo, Bocote, & Black Walnut. Would make a dark bow, but I think it would look real nice.

Guess I should have posted what I am trying to decide between [&:] .....

Riser: probably a combination of two of these woods--bocote, birdseye bocote, cocoblo, Macassar ebony, Bolivian rosewood, and/or Claro walnut.

Limb veneer: birdseye/curly maple, birdseye/quilted maple, beeswing eucalyptus, waterfall bubinga, Tamo ash, curly French walnut, Macassar ebony, bocote, birdseye bocote.

Yew limbs, on a Chek-Mate Crusader (that much I do know).

The Macassar ebony is a beatiful piece of wood, and I would love to have that on a riser. As long as it has a nice consistant grain. Overlays, maybe some sort of red. For the limbs, I always like contast to the riser, personally, I might go with clear glass, and a light stain on the yew.

I feel your pain! lol :D Those are some cool looking veneers. I could do with either the bocote or the bubinga in, say, maybe a longhorn... ;)

Bocate and the maccassar ebony in the riser with one of the maples in the limbs. Makes for a great contratsting color combo:D:D I' ll post pictures of my new Crusader with the maccasssar ebony riser and curly/birdseye maple limb veneers as soon as I get my new digital camera. Other camera was lost in the office fire:(

If I can stand to make myself wait, I think I have solution--I' m going to order several " stock" bows, each with a different veneer, and decide from there. I' m leaning towards the waterfall bubinga, just because I' ve never seen anything like it before. The Tamo ash (no pics of it yet) is very nice and very unusual also--this is killing me!

Don' t let him fibb you fellas, he has plenty to choose from, he just can' t make his mind up, until he sees one of the new bows that I had ordered then he goes to telling me it is late being shipped and all.

Pat thanks for the info, now I know why my bow took so long, old Chad had it trying to figure out if he liked it. Mine was a Marc special, Maccassar ebony riser and curly/birdeye maple limbs;) A real looker:D Chad told me the worlds supply of ebony was low and Marc had to ride his bike to South America, cut it down himself and carry it home on his back. Then he got flat tire on the way home in MS and was held up for a few days while he and a " friend" fixed it[>:]:D

CT, if you believe anything " Beavers" tells you, I got some BeachFront Property I' ll sell ya!;)
I remember the bow that you speak of. Chad had it at a shoot awhile back, he was sooting ULTRA LIGHT carbons out of it with pink micro vanes and .25 gr glue in nibbs. I think the total arrow weight was like 15grs. He was bragging about how CM bows were indestructable and that all that grains per inceh stuff was a big hoax. I have to say that bow sounded like a 12ga going off and it held up the whole round. After he finished he started letting people dry fire the bow just to test the durability of his strings. MAN THAT IS ONE STOUT BOW YOU GOT![:o]
What really made me a believer was one of the guys got stuck and Chad used your bow as an anchor point for the winch as the guy did' nt want he metal cable scuffing his new BMW SUV. It is really amazing what a little bondo, wood putty, epoxy, JB weld and superglue can fix.[:o][:o][:o][:o][:o][:o][:o]

Man! With friends like ya' ll, who needs enemas?;) (no, that ain' t a typo!)[:o]

Glad you got a Falcon on order Pat--been wanting to do the " dry fire" test on one of those too..........(now where did I put that JB Weld?):D

Wow Chad told me that the marks were secret canadian indian hunting symbols. Said they were suppose to help you never miss a shot:D

The bow looks great. Going to get my broadheads shooting from it this weekend. Think I' ll try some of those arrows Chad sent me with 85 grain heads and those purty pink feathers;)

Italian Ebony........with Bacote/M Black Ebony and Locust riser.......Think you have seen that combo Chad :D

Got a new 60" curve coming from Jeff with a simular appearance to that Longhorn, Chad. It should be here next week. He called it " sexy looking" :D Hope the wife doesn' t find out.....she likes being the only sexy looking thing in the house!

Jim! How the heck are ya' ? Good to see you around!

That was one more gorgeous bow--we' ve got some Mac. ebony veneer now that is some kinda' nice too. I wish I could just go ahead and order 5 or 6, each with different woods. The Tamo ash and curly waterfall bubinga are two that I have never seen in a bow, and really caught my eye. On the other hand, I have seen the others in a bow and that is why I want them! Still haven' t decided!

Hey Chad,

Here' s my choice from your list. Macassar Ebony & Bolivian Rosewood (make sure this wood has the deep red tone to it) for the riser, and use the Waterfall Bubinga veneers. Have a two wood riser overlay of Macassar Ebony under Bolivian Rosewood, same with the limb tips. Have Marc also put some belly overlays on it. One word........SWEET!

Hi Chad, ...yeah I' m still kick' n :)

I' ll be contacting you for some strings for this new curve thats heading my way. Just as Jeff' s bows are the only bows for me....same goes for your strings. Great bow, seal skin rest, and some of your high performance strings: how can I miss?

RE: Favorite Veneer?

Chad,

I would suggest the M. Ebony and Birdseye Bocote for the riser, walnut core and yew lams with waterfall bubinga veneers for the limbs. Yew lams with walnut core makes a sweet shooting bow. Have him add a layer of carbon while your at it!!

Rosewood and birdseye maple accents would really make for a gem of a bow!!

Chad, I will try and post some picks of this new Massie recurve that coming. Jeff said it has the same wood he used on my first Longhorn I got from him.

He expects the bow to be in my hands today or tomorrow. I have some Traditional Lites on the way as well to shoot the traditional recurve class with this set up and 3 fingers under. Yeah I can hear ya....yeah I' m going the easy way this time :D
