American Leathers--Big Shot
I know some of you have tried it--tell me about it again. Also wondering if the buffalo hide version is worth the difference in price. Thinking hard about ordinging one, but want to be sure before I spend that much on a glove.

RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
If I were to shoot a glove, the Big Shot is the one I' d use. Sorry, I' ve never used the buffalo glove but I' d really like to feel one before I paid 60$ for one. If I can' t start controlling the finger callous on my ring finger, I might have to return to a glove. The only thing I don' t like about a glove is that I don' t have a distinct feel for my anchor, rather it feels more like a wad of leather against my mouth.

RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
Brian, I used to have the same problem--until someone pointed out to me what I was doing (he' d had the same problem too, and someone pointed it out to him). Try evening out the pressure on your fingers--I' ll bet you are pulling more with your ring finger, possibly pulling up on the string/pushing down on the arrow.
Dunno if I am going to be able to order one or not--called again today, got an answering machine. Maybe they are on vacation? Chad |
RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
Yea, I' ve had trouble contacting them in the past myself. I had sent some emails and faxes yet never received a response. Makes you wonder how some of these places stay in business?
Your suggestion about the string pressure actually rings true. For the past couple of weeks I have been wondering if I might be torquing the string by cocking my ring finger to the outside. This afternoon I worked on rotating my wrist so the heel of my hand is closer to my face. That is one plus to a tab, it has a tendency to bring improper finger placement on the string to your attention. |
RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
In the NAA Coaches course they taught us that the proper string grip should be 30% pressure on the index finger, 60% on the middle finger, and 10% on the ring finger. Now all you' ve got to do is figure out how to accomplish that while still aiming, checking for elevation, finding anchor, preventing bow arm collapse, etc. Good Luck!?!?

Yea, I know what you mean Arthur. It' s a stick and a string so you' d think you couldn' t do anything wrong if you tried. But it seems everytime I jump one hurdle, there' s alway 2 or 3 other flaws to correct down the road. |
RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
Just got a call from Jan at American Leathers (she had tried calling before and missed me). Very nice lady to talk to, and now I have the info. I needed to order my glove. It seems they are having problems with their website and/or computer--she never recieved my e-mails. For anyone needing the address, here it is:
American Leathers 814 South Fork Road Cody, WY 82414 Shipping cost on a glove is $3. I' m going with the regular (elk hide) Big Shot. The buffalo hide is still very new, and they are still testing it--I plan to wait and see what the results are before I invest in one. Chad |
RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
Well, be sure to post up and let us know how you like the new glove when you get it. One thing is for sure, I know they make a quality product over there.

RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
Well, Chad, did you get your new glove yet, & how do you like it?
Darrel |
RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
I got it, but had to send it back. After several attempts, I couldn' t get one of my fingers in all the way. When I got it in about 1/2-way, it went numb in a few minutes. I know they are supposed to fit very tight to begin with, but the one finger was a bit too snug. Needed a couple of other modifications to fit me right also, so I made a new trace, included some notes, and sent it back. Hopefully my new one will be here soon.

RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
I was curious, I tried a friend' s (Rogue1, Wayne Wallen) Big Shot glove Saturday, but it was too big for me. I guess I could get used to one that fit, but the fingers seem overly padded & stiff. Can' t feel the string at all, but Wayne says that what he likes about it. Sure is a high quality glove, and I wouldn' t go through 4 or 5 gloves a year like I do now (wear a hole in the ring finger). I' ve also got used to a palm type glove. Oh well......... decisions, decisions........That' s what we get for messing with all this high tech stuff like nylon finger stalls.
Have you melted down in that Mississippi heat? It' s not been too bad here in Kentucky this summer. Darrel |
RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
I' ve heard they get a lot better once they are broken in--I' m always looking for something to help compensate for my release!
Been pretty hot here, but not as hot as usual for August--don' t think we have hit 100 yet (heat index has been way over 100, but not the actual temp). Since the summer has been cooler than usual, I' m hoping for a cold winter--come on Oct. 1st! Chad |
RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
Once they break in and you get used to them, you will like them. When I got my first one and started shooting it I thought NO WAY, after 2 weeks I ordered a second to have 2.
I love mine, but like they say about opinions, everbody has one. As with anytime you are dealing with change, it takes time. |
RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
Got my new one today, and it seems to fit perfectly--they made the exact changes I requested. Hope to try it out later today and see how I like it--if it works out, I will be ordering a spare.

RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
Well Chad, are you going to give us a report on your new glove? I still haven' t ordered one, been pretty busy, & haven' t had time. I was curious how you liked yours too.
Darrel |
RE: American Leathers--Big Shot
I haven' t had a chance to shoot with it much, but I am liking it more and more. The first time I shot with it, I only had time for a dozen or so arrows, so I really couldn' t tell much about it. The next time, I shot a round at a friends course, along with several practice arrows. Did ok, but it still felt foreign to me, and I swapped back to my Super Glove for the second round. Yesterday, I tried it again, and soon forgot I had a different glove on--I figure when I get it broken in, I will like it a lot. Not sure yet if I will order a back up right away, but this one is a keeper at least.
