How far do u shoot???

This is my second season with the recurve and I am about 100% leathal at 15 yards and about 75% at 20 and about 50% at 30... I really dont think I would try a shot past 20 yards... My most confident shot is 15 yards and under...

I was just kinda wondering how far you more advance traditional archers feel comf shooting at in a hunting situation???

I practice at 10, 15 and 20 yards; but when I'm bowhunting, I like to take my shot somewhere between 12-17 yards and I'll wait for those yardages if I have to. Those yardages "feel right" to me in my mind.

I hear ya... I know when a deer steps out at 15 yards its going to be a whole diferent deal!!!

Well I keep my range 20 yards or less. I don't even believe the newer compounds should be used to take a deer much over 30 yards. I know I watched Barta attempt a shot at 70 yards I believe.

I like practicing at long distances... doesn't mean they land where I want them though. :(

My rule of thumb is, you can hit 9/10 times in the vitals at a distance, then half that is safe bet. I practice out to 35 yards, and can hit 80%-90% out that far. I keep my shots under 18-20 yards.

I keep it under 20 yds

range where i practice is a 20 yd range ,
so under 20 is my comfort zone,
heck would like to get them at 5 yds :)

The truth is

a lot of hunters don't have the eyeballs to see all the small 1" trees that can deflect shots out to thirty yards.

I've killed deer from 2 to 36 yds with the recurve. Most are in the 15 to 20 range.

My range on a live animal depends on how the shot feels. I've let down on close ones that didn't feel right, and nailed some longer ones that felt great. One of my favorites was a red fox at around 25 yds.

On targets, it just depends on how far back I can stand and what's behind the target in case I miss. Most of my practice is at 30 yds or less though.
