Black Widows...people either love 'em or hate 'em. I'm one that definitely thinks there the best bow on the market...for ME. I've owned or shot alot of customs...Shafer,Robertson,Blacktail,Border,Zipper ,Ad****,and the list goes on but I keep coming back to the Widow. A new PL longbow starts at $910...the recurves are about a grand or so. Depending on options, the price goes up..and it can go up quite a bit.
Call them up and try one. They'll send you whatever you want to shoot for a week and it'll only cost you shipping

I'm odd (as usual). I don't love 'em, don't hate 'em. Owned a few, shot lots. Now and then one can be had at a bargain (used). Most new bows, especially customs, are overpriced to me.
BW isn't nearly the most overpriced. It's not the most expensive out there, and when you get one you get a solid piece of equipment with good backing. I've seen much plainer, much poorer quality, with no backing (in short, the bowyer would not back up his work), that cost as much or more.
As for the original question, average cost is over a grand--as is the cost of lots of custom bows on the market today.
Don't be pressured into thinking you have to spend that much, or buy a particular name, to get a high quality bow or to be able to shoot accurately. The nut behind it is what makes the difference.

I hear ya... I've been looking and i'll prob have to wait on a BW... The first time I ever seen a BW bow was on a hunting video with Allen Altizer... After watching that video I've always thought about having one of those bows... I really wouldn't mind spending that kind of money on a custom made bow if I ever really broke the code on this traditional thing... Maybe in a couple years...

I hear ya man... Every time I shoot that thing I do something a little better... I've kinda learned that I need to take my time and get my anchor and just take a extra second to make sure Im on target so to speak...
