Making Silicone String wax?
 

First I have a question? do any of you know how the silicone is added to beeswax to make the beeswax silicone type sold at supply places, if so what kind, where found, and how?
reason for asking is I have a couple pounds of beeswax.

Forgive my ignorance. I'm kind of out of the loop in this area, not having a good pro shop around here; I haven't heard of beeswax/silicone. Is it supposed to be better than straight beeswax? Is it string specific?

duck, somebody here knows something but they just aren't giving it up. the sili/bees stuff is supposed to work better on the FF/DYNA type strings and IMHO it does. i had a guy send me some made by a well known bowyer etc.. and i absolutely love it, it outperforms my plain bees in many areas. i use it to polish my bow nothing else even comes close, wax my arrow tips to prevent target burn, have used it on limb bolts, squeeky contact points on trestands, as a weatherproofing for leather. it is just some really amazing stuff and I use so much of it i would really like to make it myself as i have access to beeswax cheap and plan on learning how to make strings in the future.

Yeah, somebody's bound to know somethin'. I would assume you would melt the wax and mix in the silicone but, where do you get the silicone and in what ratio do you mix it?

I am interested because I 've got a new bow coming and it'll have one of those strings on it.

Have you posted this on the other bowhunting forum? Even compounds need to wax their strings. <img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

duck, i found what we are looking for on the other site. it said to use a 2-1-1 mixture of beeswax/bohning silicone string wax/rosin.
i used pine rosin i gathered from pine trees, a couple of partial sticks of the store bought string wax w/ silicone and other additives and 2 pounds of beeswax. put all of this into an aluminum pie plate that is about 2 inches deep and put it on the stove in a double boiler, this didn't work fast enough for me so i put it directly on the eye on very low heat and never left unattended, after about 20 minutes the whole deal had melted and mixed well, i then poured it off into cupcake holders. stuff works great. if you have the time it was worth it to me as i will prob never have to buy string wax again.

But straight bees wax only costs 50 cents a cake! Smells good too! Dick

I use a beeswax/silicone blend, but I have no idea where the silicone comes from or the mix ratio. I prefer it 10 times better than straight bees wax--it's softer, but still tacky--great for making strings. Straight bee's wax is hard, and straight silicone is too blasted slick. Pat, you gonna' bring me a cake of yours so I can give it a try?
