carbon or wood
Okay I started traditonal shooting using wood arrows - A friend had me try some carbons and they were okay - I have been shooting them for about 8 weeks now and shot the last 3d shoot with them - I went out today and shot my woods again and they really stacked up in the target compared to the carbons I have been shooting - Something about woods just keeps drawing me back - I know I am getting a few more feet per second and a flatter trajectory with the carbons but the wood seem to fly better for me - I am waiting on a Hunter II from Chad (hint hint) before making a final decision on what I will shoot - - Anyone else had this problem?

RE: carbon or wood
Why choose? Keep all kinds of arrows on hand then shoot what you want, when you want. I switch back and forth from wood to carbon to aluminum, depending on the mood I' m in at the time, or depending on what I kind of shooting I intend to do.
The only bows I' ve got that are designated ' wood only' are my selfbows. Just seems to be a little blasphemous to shoot anything but wood off an all wood bow.;) |
RE: carbon or wood
I' m kind of the same way. I like woodies better, but I want to get some carbons just to toy around with. I' m also waitin on a Hunter II and know I' ll want some woodies, but I' m always thinkin about messing around with carbons. I also got a bow off ebay that I' m waitin on Brownin Nomad Stalker I that I' ll probly go with carbons or aluminums ' cause I don' t want to put all the work of woodies into a bow that more or less a collectors item. It isn' t a bow I plan on huntin with ' cept maybe squirrels and groundhogs, so I don' t know if I' m going to put all that effort into arrows that are probably just going to see a target. If that makes any sense. But like Arthur said, keep a bunch on hand and go with whatever fits your fancy on a given day. Brandan |
RE: carbon or wood
I' ve tried them all and can' t find anything that shoot better than traditional lites. Love thoes Rogue River POC' s but when I need to hit something, I always go to the traditional lites. Don

RE: carbon or wood
JMO - Carbons shoot more consistantly and penetrate better. Put some weight tubes in them and they' ll out penetrate any other arrows of equal weight and head. Why ? I dunno, but they do. They' re either broke or straight, no bent shafts or warping.
That said, wood has a quality that makes them maybe quieter to shoot, and they feel good to shoot. Much satisfaction in making them too. I hunt with carbons, play around a lot with woods. Both have their place. |
RE: carbon or wood
I' ve had outstanding results from my long bows with Arrow Dynamic Traditionals and Traditional Lites. Shoot a wide range of tip weights and fly like laser beams. Also very tough. Lost some nocks but never destroyed and arrow:D

RE: carbon or wood
I mostly shoot and hunt with wood and have some alum' s fletched for the 3-D shoots, but this past weekend I bought a doz. Gold Tip Traditional XT' s and am really impressed with them. They shoot great off my bows which vary in wgt from 52# to 61#.Usually I have to get differant spined shafts for the bows but with these carbons shooting well off all of them-I think I may have to make the switch-at least for hunting.
