Black Bear
I am refreshing my memmory on what states allow black bear hunting. I would love the opportunity to take one with my traditional equipment.

Hunting bear Is a blast, by far my favorite animal to hunt!! Mn has a fall season, no spring season. Baiting Is also legal here. Actually It's about the only way you'll get one here In the big woods.

California has a large population of black bear, but they only issue 1700 tags per season. Please come kill one, there's too damn many of them here in Northern Cal
Best of Luck,

Michigan has a ton of bears, especially in the U.P... The primary way of hunting is to bait, which in my opinion is the only way unless you know exactly where and when that bear is going to pass you by and if you don't you will be spending many countless hours looking at birds.. Tags are not hard to come by, just check the DNR wedpage..

I know baiting is legal and easier but, what happened to tracking and stalking your prey.

I'm just being honest here, some places stalking will not work. Minnesota Is one of them. I've bear hunted for 21 years and there's a huge difference from hunting bear here In Minnesota to hunting bear out west In the mountains or In country that's more open then the northern woods of Minnesota. You can't stalk on flat ground when you can't see 10 yards In front of your face, that's the exact kind of terrain I hunt here In northern Minnesota. In the mountains you can see a long ways, that's a huge plus In stalking. I've done both methods- Hunting over bait In Minnesota and doing spot and stalk hunting In Idaho and Montana. Stalking was much more exciting, I loved It!!
I've never shot a bear doing spot and stalk hunting out west but I've been with In 10 yards of them multiple times but have passed on all the shots. None were ever big enough. I've taken 9 bear In 21 years over bait In Minnesota, It's tougher then most think. If I had a choice I'd do the spot and stalk method any day of the week, It's much more exciting and easier to me but I know that style of hunting doesn't work here In Minnesota. Remember this that a bears nose Is one of the best out there but his eye's and hearing are what will hurt him.
Best of luck If you do decide to go bear hunting!! :cool2: Keep me posted.
