Shooting Tabs vs. Gloves

I am starting out in Traditional Archery and was wondering what some experienced shooters use. What would you recommend and why?

I get a better release & prolly slightly better accuracy w/a tab, but use both. Tab mostly lately tho.

I use a tab. I am the worlds worse darn string plucker that there is. Ive tried every glove made on the market and still i pluck, pluck, pluck. The tabs keeps me from plucking so bad. There alot of ppl out there that perfer a glove though...you'll just have to try both and see what ya like best....Jaw

I use a Latigo tab. Long lasting and smooth release. I used a shooting glove once and didn't like it.

For shooting I prefer a calf hair faced tab, although right now my fingers are sore so I'm shooting a Winn Free Flight release.(and shooting better with it, thank you) For hunting I usually use a Damascus glove. ( more wearing than shooting, less in the way, can wear a glomitt over it in cold weather etc.)

Glove, hate a tab. I would LOVE to have hard enough calluses to shoot bare fingers, and do about ever practice sessions a few times. You never know when you might need to in the woods.

I hate tabs also. I use a Berlin glove. Costs about $15-16. Some gloves have too much material for my liking. I am a big guy but have very small hands. I buy a medium which when stretched fits, well, like a glove with no extra material to foul things up. Tabs are for sissys. Just kidding.

When I shot a compound I used a glove but it just doesn't feel right to me with the recurve. Now I use a calfhair tab. When hunting it folds into my palm and I put my gloves on over it. Got to thinking about "What if I can't get the glove off in time for a shot?" so I tried a few shots with my polarfleece glove. It actually worked out pretty well, of course wouldn't want to do that all the time.

All boils down to personal preference, I belive. Even after you decide on one or the other, then you have to decide which brand or style of those. I believe most target archers use a tab, and it probably makes for a cleaner release, but may be noisier. I use a Damascus glove myself. One thing about gloves--I buy mine a size too small. The leather will stretch with use, and if you get one that fits when new it will be loose before long. A size too small is uncomfortable at first, but stretches to fit perfectly in a short time.

Good tabs give the fastest releases. I get almost 3 fps faster arrows with a tab than a glove. Those damn ridges always get in the way for me with a glove. I use a tab that Silver Arrow Archery sells that uses sheep skin for the face. The lanolin on the tab makes for a fast release.

Tab. I get a cleaner release and can flip it around when I need it out of the way (like when hunting).

Started with an Alaska Bowhunter's Super Glove with cordovan tips (I've got sensitive pinkies). Just recently started experimenting with tabs and have settled on the Cavalier Elite. I like the fact it has a ledge to align the string with to insure a consistently deep grip. Did replace the finger separator with one from a Black Widow palm tab, 'cause the metal one on the Cavalier cut my fingers. The Cavalier Elite seems to be the one most of the Olympic FITA shooters are using now, for what that's worth. In my case it seems to reduce string torqueing by my ring finger.

cordovan tab here...I cant find a glove that I like that fits! The cordovan tab lasts and lasts and lasts as long as ya dont loose it LOL! I also feel I get a cleaner relases with a tab but then again all the gloves I buy are waay to small or fallin off one or all of my fingers

Funny this is posted! I just bought a new tab tonight...For some reason I pinch the damn arrow with my glove and it wants to jump off the bow. With a tab that was never a problem. (Lost mine...and finally found a lefty tab---at Wal-Mart of all places)

I use a Neet Cordovan tab. Very durable, thick enough to protect your fingers, but thin enough to feel the string. It doesn't have one of those no-pinch thingies on it, which I love about it. If I don't get it right at the fingertips, my fingers get pinched. I accidently left mine in my pants pocket, and it got washed. I found it, shot it while it was still wet. I like it even better.
I have a calf hair tab, but it is a bit to thin, floppy and a tad bit to large. I bought it to shoot with gloves on. Works well for that purpose. Very very slick.
Haven't shot a glove for a while.

Just a matter of what works for you. I shoot both depending on what I feel like.

I use a Damascus glove. I have tried a variety of tabs, but my ring finger is apparently too long for the tabs I've found and tried. The bottom side of my ring finger is exposed to the string with tabs. It gets sore in a hurry!

I am a die-hard Wilson tab fan. I shoot much more consistently with a tab & the Wilson is the best I have used. I had to try several tabs & gloves to find what was right for me before I settled on the Wilson tab. One thing about it though. People who have tried a Wison tab either love it or hate it, there is no in between.

I have the yellow glove sold by Black Widow and their 3-under tab.
I get a cleaner release and better arrow flight with the tab but, like others, get sore fingers from using it. So I find myself using the glove most of the time.

HI I use a shooting glove as I have not been able to get good flight w/ a tab. I also have a pair of tight leather workgloves that I use when the temperature starts getting colder.
Good luck
Eric
