Materials Help Please!!!
 

My father in law is in town and he made a stop at three rivers archery to buy some materials to make traditional longbows with. we got to talking about the cost of the materials (glues, epoxies, fiberglass).

i told him about this site that i go to with the best of the best here:rock: and told him that you all could help give him some information of the types of materials you use and what you pay for them and if you have an 'essential' component let us know.

this is a hobby and just to make a good bow costs a fortune so help us out if you can.

As for materials I get my glass and Action Bamboo from Kenny's Custom archery his prices are the best there is and he ships quick, he also make laminations and riser blanks. I make all my own laminations and riser blanks.

As for Glue I use Areo Marine 400 it is stronger than Smooth On and cheaper I get that from http://www.jgreer.com/index.htm

As for plans for the form and heat box you can either make up your own or get ones from Binghams http://www.binghamprojects.com I would also suggest getting their DVD on making a long bow.

Depending on where you are if your close to Burleson TX your more than welcome to come and use my forms, heat box and other equipment plus I will give as much advice as he can handle.

I got a question Russ! Doesn't it stink to be too short to go on rides at amusement parks?:hit: Hadn't messed with you in awhile..had to do that! But really this is great bunch of guys like was stated and will help any way they can,if I lived close to Russ I would be all over him helping me build a bow!:rock:

All depends on how froggy you want to get. You can buy a simple sureform rasp and a redoak board and make a good bow. Or you can go the rought of glass lams at a budget by buying precut lams and using an epoxy that needs no cooking.

Like I said, it all depends on what you want to do. Ive made bows with as little as a rasp and as advanced as every tool in my shop.
