Aluminum Experiement
 

Alright, since the summer is here I am thinking of experimenting with aluminum just to see if I may like it better. I just don' t know what size to try since the only aluminums I have go with my compound (Totally different than what I need, I know). I shoot 47#@28" so can someone give me a good starting point on what size to try. Also, I would like to get to around 500 gr. I will be using a 125 bh with the aluminum adapters so that will probably put them about 140gr tip weight. I am sure that makes a difference in spine so could someone help. I will definitely appreciate any info lended this way. Thanks

Go to www.bowjackson.com, then go to the Arrow shaft charts, Easton Legacy charts. This will give you a good starting place. Ther regular easton charts give a very stiff spine choice for Trad. Good luck!

What did you decide on. I was afraid to suggest any but I was thinking around 2018 ??? My bad. Looked at the chart: 1916' s?
My wife shoots them out of her 45# @ 27 r/d longbow w/fast string and they fly like .........arrows. Thought I was gonna say darts, din' ya?

I used to shoot 2016' s or 2018' s out of my 45# recurve with 145' s. 1916' s with 125' s might fly nice too.

Hey guys, I ended up with a handful of 2117' s. I know you are probably thinking " whoa, why so stiff and heavy," right? Well, according to the primitive bow chart recommended on bowjackson.com, 2020 and 2117 with a 125 gr head was where I was sitting. And I am sure that at 27" or 28" , I may have needed a 2018 or such but I am pulling right around 30" to 30 1/2" . If you ever saw me you would think I am the missing link with a bow, I stand about 6' 4" so I have quite a wingspan! Also, I am sure that the extra inches on draw pulls just a few more pounds, so I am pretty sure I am close to or a little over fifty pounds now. Anywho, I got the arrows home, stripped the vanes off, feathered them up and went shooting. After adjusting my brace height I was getting arrow flight I have never had. I know it has a lot to do with tuning the b. height to the arrow but I was shocked. I even busted a nock off one of the arrows. Tickled is an understatement when I shoot this bow now. Could I do it with wood? It is more than possible, but I am going to stick with my metals for a little while.

I shoot 2216' s out of a 61lb longbow. They are cut to 33' ' and fly like darts as well. I got lucky much like yourself.
