Fletching with Feathers?
 

I am about to get started and I am going to start out with Feather fletching on my arrows. I use Blazers on my Compound setup, and I do all my own fletching. My question is, what are the best/easiest feathers to fletch with? and how are they attached to the arrow?

I prefer Trueflight feathers. IMO, they've got more consistent bases than the Gateway brand. Size and profile are more determined by how much feather you need to stabilize your broadheads and give you good flight, and personal preference. Check out the link below. Be sure to read the fletching guide and the FAQ's. Lots of good info in there.

For feathers, I prefer Bohning fletching tape over glue. Tape is easy to use and works great on all arrow materials/finishes I've come across. Glue like Fletchtite or Duco works just fine on aluminum arrows, but with wood arrows you can run into problems where the solvent in one type of glue is incompatible with the finish on the arrow. For instance, only use Bohning glue when the arrows are dipped in Bohning lacquer. When I use glue for carbon arrows, it's always some type of super glue gel.

I agree with the feather quality as Arthur said, but I have not had problem with either.

For glue I use UHU and it works great on wood and Carbon. you can get the glue like at ACE or other hardware stores like Lowes and I have seen it at Wally world also.

Trueflight's all the way.For carbons and aluminums,I use Fletchtite Platinum on a wrap(I don't crown dip too much anymore).Duco on wood's with a crown dip.Duco doesn't work well on wraps,btw.The tape works well on all arrow materials and you can get about 3 doz. arrows fletched with a roll.If you go the tape route,put a drop of glue on both ends of the fletching

My all time favorite is turkey feathers. I burn my own, so I like to try all kinds. Turkey is by far my favorite. Im going to fletch up a bunch more later on this year with goose feathers. Russ (Kanga) and I were talking about goose feathers, last time he was down, and it only makes since. They are naturally oily, and should hold up well in damp weather. Ive just got to go out and find where the outfitters are cleaning their geese and get a bunch of wing feathers. If I cant find any, ive got a bunch of turkey wing feathers to tieme over.

Dont bleech them or the natural oil will bleech out as well.;)

I like gateways. I always seem to come back to them. They also make large 5.5" sheilds which I like.

I keep a bitz for for feathers. I use easy fletch for vanes.

Also, I have switched to bohning fletch tape, and love it.
