Finished up the bow Fri. afternoon. Havent had a chance to post pics yet. Had a friend pass away Sat. so Ive been doing the funeral thing since. No worries. We have been knowing Margie was going to pass, it was just a matter of when. She is much better off.

As for the bow. Finished doing the perty work on her. Sanded and sealed, and made a string while waiting between coats. Ill add some braced pics and full draw pics later.












My spring scale is acting funny, so the bow is either 62lbs at 28" or 64lbs at 28", and 69" ntn. Ive got to get me a new scale.:D

Over all stats. 69" ntn. 65lbs @28".

One of the best build a longs I have seen. I want to build one so bad. I just don't think I have the skills. Good new is if I messed up, I am out less than a good piece of yew.

I think if I made a quality bow like that consistently, I would make it my career. No joke.

ONe thing I notice however with the finished bow, is your power lam looks about same length as your fades in the osage handle? I thought they were going to be 1/2" longer on both sides

First thanks Mark. I got two cores ready to go right now. I think I might sell a few of these bows.


As for your question about the power lam. I ended up running my tapper on my riser the same length. Since I had no need for a power lam, and was using it for looks, I made my riser equal lengths to try to make the lam look like it was part of the riser. But you are right. If you makea board bow and use a power lam to stiffen the handle area, you doneed to extend it past the fades.

That's exactly what type of bow I want to build for me. Slim and graceful. I like the reflex you put in it. And all the colors in the riser and limb tipsare really nice.

I'm gonna start my first laminate bow immediately, but I'm using lower quality materials, just to practice. I have some red oak strips, a white oak riser and some maple to back it. The form I'm making for it should give it a reflex close to yours. Maybe, if I can remember to take the pictures, I'll do a build-a-long with it.

Great job on the bow again.

I haven't been keeping up with this much but it does look good! Guess you have enough osage to tide you over if your just using it for risers...at least the pieces with holes do have some use. There was some glare in the picture of you drawing it back but the bow was still visable.:D You do good work kent!

I might be able to get some more riser wood out of those posts. The piece I cleaned up for this bow, was by far the best. The other wood you brought, will needs to dry for a few months. And I hope to be able to use it for selfbows and board bows. By the way, I promised you a bow for that wood. What kind do you like. Selfbow or a lam/ board bow? It might be a while before I can crack into that last bit of wood, so I guess you will have time to think on it.

For the two cores ive got started. They are just like this bow, except Ive had to splice some ipe together for the cores. Ill be using cocobola and/or cherry for the riser.
