The Chrissy Present Build Along

Well seeing the cats out of the bag for Chad's (PAHardwoods) chrissy present from his wonderful GF.

Here is the build along for it.

This is what I have done so far.
Got the wood for the limb lams ripped.

Going to be Leopardwood on the front and Black Walnut on the back.;)

I also have the riser rough cut out and I'll tell ya what I can't wait to get her done cause she is goona look beautiful.:)

Ok enough rambling:D

The riser is Morado ( Bolivian Rosewood )

Just look at the beautiful lines it's going to have on the front side of the riser.

Now the grip side.

The rest of the bow at this moment in time is going to be Bubinga wedges for the limbs and Cocobolo limb tip overlays but that is subject to change I'll have to wait till I get the limbs cut out and have another look:D

As long as I dont screw up the limbs it should be finished in plenty of time to get there:D

A little more work on the riser;)

Sanded down the rough edges.

Then to the jointer to square up the limb side:)

After a couple of passes it's ready to have the center line marked.:D

Oh the machines where not running when I took the pics ( I value my fingers too much[8D]:D)

Not much more I can do to the riser except for drill and tap the holes for the locking hardware.

I will be ordering the glass, action boo and locking hardware on Monday:)

Dang Russ, maybe i shouldn't have had you do a build-along. LOL Now I can't Wait. LOL!!! By the way I think I settled on the 40lbs. Think you can pull that off? basically anything between 40-45lbs would be great but the closer to 40 the better. Im loving those woods together. if it ends up looking half as good as the one you sent me to test and shooting just as good Im gonna be one happy camper. Which Im positive its gonna be great!!!:D

Chad.

Just about to start grinding the lams for the limbs.

I'll get the limbs as close as I can to 40lb but they might end up around 42/43 at your draw lenght.;)

But have to fix my big drum sander table first, I put caster wheels on it a while back so I can just move the whole table in and out as needed, but the plastic bits where the casters screw into keep pulling out so I am replacing them at the moment with blocks of hardwood about 2" long so hopefully they wont keep pulling out when I move the table:D

More to come soon;)

Ok the table is all fixed up;)

So it's time to grind the limb lams:D

Here' the Black Walnut making a pass through the drum sander.

The sled that the Walnut is on has a .001" per running inch of taper;)

All the lams are now tapered so work is just about holted till I get the glass and boo.

All I can do now is drill and tap the holes in the riser for the locking hardware and mark the riser for the sight window, rest and grip area.

Kanga, this is about the coolest thing I have seen in a long while!
Watching the work/along is absolutely awesome, man it didn't take you long to get your new toys into the act as I can see either.
That is a nice piece of Bolivian rosewood you are using for the riser.
Up till now "House" (TV show) was my favorite show but you just might take the lead now, please don't stop the show, can't wait for the next episode.
