Martin Refinishing

Ok, here's the deal. I had the finish bubble up right where the handle is on my savannah. So I called Martin hoping they would warranty it. Its a 2004 bow. Its been sent back to howatt before because of rough upper string grooves eating strings. They warrantied it.

Well, I ended up having to shoot 450+ strings from chad because upper limb still ate strings. And 450+ seemed to handle it better than B50. And it performed better.

Ok, so martin said from now on, only go thru dealer. So I took to dealer. And he said he didn't know what would happen and Martin would have to look at it. They sent it back, and it comes back refinished, looking good and a charge of $120 dollars.

If I knew that, I would have tried to refinish myself. And if it didn't work out, have them to refinish it.

Some say its a heck of a deal. I don't think so. Might be my last martin. I like my savannah, and it and I seem to shoot well together. Even better than some widows I have had.

a charge of $120
That seems a little excessive for a freight charge[8D];):):D

It's a pity they don't be up front and let you know what it is going to cost.

What sort of finish is on the bow ????????????

Larry Hatfield frequents tradtalk. So I pm'd him about the finish. He said its called plasticyn. Never heard of it. he said most polys would cover it.

guess I am little miffed, because if I knew they were going to charge me to refinish it, I would have gave it a shot.

Me too specially seeing you can get a spray can of poly for 7 bucks.

I have not heard of plasticyn either maybe it's their way of saying poly:)

Wow, they've gone up in the last few years. I had one refinished a few years back an it was around $75.

Plasticyn? Im not familure with it either. I do know most bow companies use a two part epoxy type finish. If that is the case, you can smooth it out and use a self leveling poly to fix it.

Well, it was 75 dollars to finish and 50 dollars shipping both ways.

Black widow charges 200 to refinish, but thats with shipping.

had a Martin dealer tell me he had to send 3 Savannah bows back this year because of cracking in the finish.
