New longbow really smokes! More results!

Ok Chad close your ears. Just got my new Selway Lil Magnum longbow 62" , 57# @ 29" , 5 lam dymondwood riser (cool multicolor), canarywood limbs with bamboo cores, and sheep horn nocks. The canarywood is really cool, with reds and yellows. This bow is downright awesome:D. I did the following testing tonight for speed. Bow has Dynaflight 97 string, 1 brass nock, no silencers. The arrow shot was an Arrow Dynamic Traditional, 31" , 3 - 5" shield cut Tru Flight feathers. I shot 10 shots with a 125 grain point and 10 shots with a 175 grain point. Arrow weights were 505 and 575 grains respectively. Average speed for the 505 arrows was 203.7 fps (46.5 ft-lbs KE)and for the 555 arrows 198.7 fps(48.7 ft-lbs KE):D:D The bow is super smooth and quite. My digital camera just broke. I' ll post pictures as soon as I can.

The big showdown will be when my new Crusader comes in...Chad any word???

meaning no disrespect CT, but you need a new Chronograph. Are you shooting through it as you would hunting, or as if you were flight shooting? The maximum obtainable speed from a stickbow and the " hunting speed" are two distinctly different things. Sorry, but an AVERAGE speed of over 200fps with 8+ grains/lb just ain' t happening with anybody' s longbow.

RE: New longbow really smokes!

John,

Don' t know how to shoot any way but how I hunt. I used the same form, stance, anchor point etc. I was very careful. Even made a couple checks of my draw length just to make sure it was 29" and I wasn' t overdrawing. I shot the same arrow 10 times then took an average. The numbers that I got were similiar to what the bowyer got. I was amazed when he told me how fast the bow was, so I wanted to do an independent test. I used the excuse of helping my 9 year old do a science experiment on KE to get a chrono[>:] The bowyer told me that he was extremely pleased with the bamboo and canarywood limbs and that he plans on making a few more. A dealer contacted me as he heard about the bow and wanted some pictures and info. He had done some tests on a similiar model with different limbs and was impressed with the speed and smoothness of the bow. Gordy stated that this particular limb combo was just awesome. I' m going to do some more testing tonight with different arrow weights and a couple other bows. I' ll post the results. Don' t know what to say but the speed is real:D

I was reading of some guy who was testing traditional korean longbows with a kind of overdraw like thing that they used to put on thier bows. Made of bamboo I think. He was getting speeds faster than 200fps, so I know it' s possible. Congrats on the new bow.

Hey CT, what kind of speeds were you getting out of your Crusaders? Just curious. Mine seems pretty darn fast, but I dont have a chrono.

Don' t know. Didn' t have a Chrono at that time. Waiting on my new Crusader from Chad. As soon as it comes....hint, hint, hint, Chad, I' ll do a chrono test, but yes I bet it' s pretty fast.
