Well shoot........
Had a mixed bag today as far as luck goes. Had the truck packed and ready to head to FL, and got "the" phone call--blasted storm went exactly the wrong way, and is sitting on the beach where we were going to be bowfishing. Cabin where we were going to stay for the hog hunt is flooded. Needless to say, that trip was cancelled--our host won't have another weekend off to take us before deer season, so we'll have to plan for next summer.
The good news is we were running about 2 hours behind schedule and hadn't left yet (we were within 10 minutes ofleaving). Could have been 100 or more miles down the road before we found out if we'd been on time. Good news is an old buddy moved to the MS Gulf Coast, and is going to be on the lookout for a place to bowfish for stingray, and my UPS guy (I don't ship via UPS, but our local delivery guy is great) thinks he has hogs on his 250 acres and we're making plans to go check to be sure. If he does, I have permission to hunt them--within an hour or so of myhouse--whoo-hoo! Kinda bummed (ok--REALLY bummed) about the stingray trip getting washed out (literally), but there's still hope on the horizon. At least I still have my elk hunt coming up in about 3 weeks. Chad |

That's a nasty pill to have to swallow, Chad. But think of all the gas money you've saved to use on your elk hunt.;)
But your bad luck is due in part to my son's good luck. He's AIT at Ft. Gordon, GA and was on a pre-graduation field exercise this past week. If the storm had followed it's original projected path, he'd have gotten soaked. Feel free to blame him for it. [8D] A girl from our church has an internship at Disney World and she got there just a couple of days before the storm hit. Her mother was going nuts with the storm parked over Orlando for so long. |

Dad gone Chad, It appears its not meant to be. Sorry to hear it. You seemed really excited about it.

RE: Well shoot........
The way I see it, everything happens for a reason--like me running a couple hours behind schedule kept me from wasting a few hours and a bunch of gas--so I'll just have to take it at that.
Cool Art--I went to AIT at Ft. Gordon myself. Used to be called "Ft. Resort"--we had heard all about it before we got there, and were looking forward to it. We got there a few weeks after the beer vending machines were removed from the barracks, and the soft cap instructors were replaced by round browns......do I see a pattern here???[:'(] My MIL lives in Okechobee most of the year (snowbird), and was going to head back down with us originally--just as well she didn't! The retirement community/park where she lives got some big wind--heard there's some damage to her screened-in patio, but could be worse. Last time a palm tree just about 15 feet from her house got ripped out of the ground, the next-door neighbor (you can stand in one driveway and about spit in the neighbor's) lost their porch, and lots of homes were destroyed completely. She's been lucky. I was really excited about it BC--more for my son and a buddy that was going with me though. Both are bowfishing nuts, and neither has ever had a chance at stingray--at least I've been once before. Going to talk to my buddy on the coast--slim chance we'll get out this year, but there is a chance. If not, we'll just make better plans for FL next year. Still, I have the elk hunt to look forward too, abig new place for whitetail, and a possible spot for hogs to check out. All things considered, I'd still have to say life is good! Chad |
