new to this...what type of wood?
i live in northern minnesota, and the types of wood i can get for building selfbows is fairly limited. i was wondering what kind of wood i should use. some native species are pine, maple, oak, poplar, birch, elm, and the very rare cedar. i was fortunate enough to find some cedar that had been cut and dried for about two years, but they were all only five foot lengths....not long enough.
thanks for any help. |

Of those, maple, elm and oak are your best bets, especially for a beginner. The others aren't so hot.

If you never done it before, I suggest hickory. I know minn has some hickory. Elm is supposed to be great. I have seen oak take alot of set usually.
