Default Bear Glass Powered Grizzly

I have a Bear Glass Powered Grizzly 62" 50#. It has a 57" string but I don't want to break it stringing it. Is the 57" string long enough. Should I use it it was made from 1958 to 1963 according to http://www.neoreality.com/archery/goodole.htm

I would say no. Strings are cheap. You don't want a break. I would figure that bow need a 58" string.

A general rule is 3" less for longbows and 4" less for recurves. If my memory serves me, the grizzly is a recurve, so if amo is 62" you would need a 58" string. Just as bigcountry mentioned. Id be safe and go with a 58" string. If the brace is too shallow, no problem, twist the string up a bit. If you go with a 57" you cant grow more string if the brace is too high.

Inspect the bow--check the riser and especially the edges of the limbs for cracks and/or separations. As long as the bow is in decent shape, you can string it. Use a bow stringer.

AMO is 3" shorter, longbow or recurve--but a lot of bows don't follow AMO specs. Most of the old Bearrecurves do get a string around 4" shorter. You won't hurt the bow using a 57" string, but a 56" will probably fit it better.

The very first Grizzlys were static recurves, but I cant remember if that made any difference in string length. I do know they had hand shock like the longbows of that time.I owned one and it was a rough shooter. Hope you have a newer version. Tox

Just noticed a typo in my post--that should have been "a 58" string will fit it better", not a 56". Also depends on how you measured the string--if you measured it off the bow, with no tension, it could very well settle in at 58" or longer.
