Cheap, smooth recurve?????
Ok see that LBR and TroynOH the recurve experts are on. What would be a good cheap stump shooting recurve for a longbow man to own? Rumor has it that my Crusader is now visible on the horizon. Need something to pass the time. Would like to put one in my longbow stable to just have fun with.

RE: Cheap, smooth recurve?????
I would have to second the falcon. I have 2 and they are nice bows just not fancy. I have a 53#er that rarely gets shot(love my 56" bows to much) and a 55#er that I bought to bow fish with. They are smooth and shoot quite nice.

ditto on the Falcon
I have 2 also, and if you want a fancy one, Marc will build it. KPC |
RE: Cheap, smooth recurve?????
I have to second the Falcon choice being promoted. I have a Deluxe that shoots like a dream. This has now become a wall hanger since I got my Saders. These have become my everyday, everything bows.

You might be able to pick up one of the old bears or pearsons off ebay for $100 or less. If you' re just gettin something to shoot ' till your Crusader arrives then they would fit the bill. Lots of them floatin around in the 45-50# range. Kohonnah makes a long bow for $350 I believe it is if you want a cheaper (price) custom. It has a pretty short wait too I think. I haven' t shot one myself, but I' ve heard good things about them. Brandan |

Elk Ridge Archery makes a good recurve for $300. It is a great deal for a custom bow. One of the smoothest I have ever used.

RE: Cheap, smooth recurve?????
I would also recommend the Falcon. I own a Falcon Special, smooth to draw, hard hitting and just a great bow to hunt with. I killed a nice little doe with it and carbon
arrows last October. I' m going to take it out this spring to see if we can kill a whistle pig or two and if I' m really lucky a turkey. I like my Falcon recurve so much it probably won' t be a surprise if I ended up buying a second one or a maybe a 58" Hunter recurve in the future. |
RE: Cheap, smooth recurve?????
If you' re looking for a used bow, it' s hard to beat eBay. Many GOOD bows can be had for under $100.00.

RE: Cheap, smooth recurve?????
Bow update...... Well I went from looking for a recurve to see what all the fuss was about to owning 2:D.
Was talking to a guy that had a Gharing, static recurve 60" , 46# @ 28" or 54# @ 30" (my draw) Bubinga riser bamboo limbs. A nice bow for what I wanted. Well I got it Friday. Had the wrong string so I happened to have a string and set it up to shoot Saturday. I was shooting in the backyard as that big yellow thing in the sky was actually visible:D Got a fire call. I' m a volunteer fireman. Set the bow down and went off to the call. My wife, not thinking let the 3 labs out into the yard. I got home in about 15 minutes (false alarm) and what do I see my female lab chewing on the bow like chew toy. About 24 to 30 teeth marks, and ruined the string. I spent an hour with somw fine steel wool to knock down the teeth marks. Lucky for the dog the bow still shoots. My wife said that she' s never seen me so mad and snuck out of the house and went to her mom' s. Lucky the boys were at friends. Troy you almost could have had a free lab. Then while I was working on the bow a friend called who has been trying to sell me his Sovereign Ballistik for about 3 months. I told him he wanted too much and it was a recurve:( He called and said he wanted to trade his bow for a rod and reel I had. Well got the Ballistik for a rod and reel I didn' t need (paid $75) and $50. So I' m out to the backyard this morning, no dogs! I' ll tell you how they shoot later. |
RE: Cheap, smooth recurve?????
By the way already talked to Chad about making me some new strings:D

RE: Cheap, smooth recurve?????
Well the Ballistick shot very smooth but it was 67# @ 30" , a little more than I like. The Gharing is very sweet shooting, 54# @ 30" . It' s a keeper. After posting about the weight, TroynOH contacted me and bang, he' s the proud owner of the Ballistick. It' s in his preferred weight range and he was looking for a bow like it without the wait and high cost. Well I shipped it off this afternoon, so if can hold on for a day or two, he' ll have a new bow. At least it' s going to a hard core recurve man. It was wasted in these longbow hands. Still not convinced to switch:D.
