what type of fletching
 

i just started to build my own arrows and i ordered a blitzenburg fletcher with a right helical clamp . my question is will this work since i shoot right handed? a guy at work told me i should fletch my arrows left helical

It makes no difference on the helical of the fletch and whether you shoot right or left hand. That' s pretty much a wives tale. Fletch those arrows up and let them fly:D

I shoot right handed and use a right helix. Just make sure you use right wing feathers with a right helix.

I don' t think old wives had anything to do with telling this tale, there were plenty of bowhunters spreading this around for years. Just part of the fun to separate fact from fiction.

Right hand fletching will work fine. As already stated, make certain you buy right-wing feathers to fletch your arrows.

As a right-hand shooter myself, I have found that RW fletch tends to wear the fletch a little faster, but that is MY experience, not a general rule as far as I know.

I think left wing feathers maybe alittle more common and most places carry more colors in left wing, but either will work.

Left wing for right handed shooters is NOT an old wives' tale or fiction. It dates back to before arrow shelves when everyone shot their off their knuckles. Right wing feathers run the lead end of the feather right into the knuckle, and if the end isn' t glued down good or is pulled up, the knuckle gets impaled by the feather or sliced open. Left wing feathers take the leading end of the fletch off the knuckle, so no cuts.

It still holds true for anyone that shoots off their knuckle. When you' re shooting a bow that has an arrow shelf cut into the handle, right/left helical doesn' t really matter.

I shoot right helical because at times the fletching hits my index finger with left helical, but as stated, they shoot the same. Don
