Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
Just felt like I should chime in here and say out in the open that this board is here to discuss any and all aspects of traditional archery--brands included. I don' t want anyone to feel intimidated if they like some other bow better than my favorite, and want to post about it. I' ll be the first to say that there is no one bow that is perfect for everyone, and there is nothing wrong with that. There are lots of great bows on the market--shoot what works for you, and don' t hesitate to talk about it.
I purposely don' t reply on some threads because of my affiliation with Chek-Mate--I don' t want anyone to feel like I am trying to " push" them--that is not what this board is all about. Of course if you like them, you are more than welcome to talk about it :D, but don' t feel like you are obligated. Okey doke, I' m done. Chad |

RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
Have ya' ll heard about the new Black Widow Forum. You gain access to hit from the BW home page. You have to be a BW owner, or have the serial number of a BW bow, to register and participate. Anybody can gain access and read the topics. Only the registered " elite" can gain access and reply on the threads. And they wonder why BW comes under so much criticism??!!

RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!

RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
Maybe Chad can set up a secret forum like black widows;):D. As an initiation you have to, on video, throw someones black widow into a roaring fire, or worse show a score card that smokes theirs:D:D

RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
Bill,
Truth be known, if I were Ken Beck I' d have set it up the same way. His web site is there to sell his bows. If he set up a message board and allowed the type of " Widow-bashing" that is a frequent part of other web sites, that wouldn' t be very condusive for sales. JRW |
RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
I read the " Rules" , there. Seems fine to me. If I had a Black Widow I' d be there most every day. I enjoy this message board.
Where is this place? I just noticed y' all are an hour behind me. |
RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
Just kidding about black widows. Actually it is a good idea. But if Chad set one up for Chek Mate bows he' d have no time to do this forum or sell bows:)

RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
Bill:
You always say that your BW bashing is toungue and cheek yet seem obsessed in criticizing them and their owners on every forum you participate in. Many people come to this forum to escape that very thing. Do I own a Black Widow? Nope. Do I plan on purchasing one? Nope. As a matter of fact I own 2 CM' s and am considering a third. I for one, am just aksing that you refrain from bringing that garbage here. KPC |
RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
By the way Chad...It' s not that we can' t discuss CM' s anywhere else, we just cant discuss YOU!! :D

RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
JRW,
Truth be know, BW bashing is as much a result of the elitism of BW owners and their own bashing of any other manufacturer' s bow as it is people bashing BW just for grins. I have seen many a thread where a person asks about a particular type of bow and someone will post, trash it and then tack on " get a real bow, but a BW." And yes, is is a wise marketing scheme on Ken' s part, but frankly I think it has very little to do with BW bashing. He may be limiting participation to avoid confrontations on his forum, but I think the purpose of his forum is pure and simply SALES. People talking about BWs on forums are a positive for Ken whether the comments are perceived to be positive or negative. He gets much more marketing in the threads than anyone, other than maybe OL since he brought out the ACS. I just think it is comical to read some of the comments by the BW owners. They can dish it out, but they can' t take it when it is thrown back at them. And now they are about to turn their shorts yellow because they have an elite place where they can go and talk by themselves. I have gone in a couple of times and looked at the forum. It is rather vanilla and I predict it won' t last very long. Bill |
RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
GEREP,
I have made very few posts on BW topics. I did start one thread regarding " BWs Custom Bows?" . And I have also participated with comments on the BW Forum thread. Unless Chad tells me I am way out of line, I will exercise the liberty to ask a question about the silly " I love you, you love me fest" known as the BW Forum. As I noted in my comments to Jason above, much of the negative comments that come BWs way are the direct result of the owners of BW bows slamming other bows and in essence, if not directly, looking down their elitist noses as if to say, " You poor fella you can' t afford a real bow, a BW." Maybe you are confusing me with another Bill who posts many, many more comments than I do and says they are tongue in cheek, Bill Tait. Bill Lamb |
RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
Bill,
" He may be limiting participation to avoid confrontations on his forum, but I think the purpose of his forum is pure and simply SALES." Besides, it' d be terribly boring if everyone shot the same stuff. JRW |
RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
Bill:
Maybe I am confusing you with another Bill. If so, please accept my apologies. I just thought it was kind of funny that on a thread that everyone is talking about CM, you would come on and start something about BW. I just get so sick and tired of hearing that kind of stuff when it really does no good for anybody. I do have to admit, that I' m not sure if I have ever heard a BW owner bash any other bow exept in defence of a snide remark or outright bash directed toward them. As far as the BW forum, why does that stike you as funny. It is part of BW' s site, BW pays for it and it is intended for BW owners. I find nothing offensive or elite about that. Ken Beck is in the business of selling bows. When I pick up TB magazine, and I look at any advertisement in there, do they include competitors products in the ad? Heck no. They pay for the ad to generate business and awareness of their own products. Is this elitesism? I think its just good business. Fred Bear marketed his product in any way he could think of. I would imagine that if the internet was around in his day, their would have been Bear forums and people would bash him for making " production" bows. Go figure. |
RE: Chek-Mate Forum? NOT!
GEREP,
The only reason I went " off topic" was I thought it intriguing that the title of the thread was " Chek-Mate Forum. NOT!" It struck a chord with me about the BW forum. And I guess my comments are not really directed at Ken Beck because what he is doing IS wise on his part, to an extent. My comments really were directed at some of the sophomoric comments I have seen from BW owners, and YES I must admit BW haters/needlers/bahers/or whatever they are. I believe an honest objective opinion can be made without being bashing. For example, it is my opinion that the BW T/D recurve risers look like a 2X4 that has been shaped to form a rather blocky looking riser. (By the way, I have the same opinion of Habu recurves) Now if I post that as my opinion, am I bashing BW? I guarantee the BW enthusiasts will take it as bashing. There often is no leeway allowed for posting an opinion without it being interpreted as bashing. That is why I most often just bypass the BW threads. I frankly can' t afford one of them and would buy other bows in the price range first if I could! I am strictly a longbow shooter, and from what I have read, their longbow is not a top performer like their recurves. Just MHO. Bi |
