Shot my 1st 3-d with longbow today!
 

Well I did it. Shot my 1st 3-d shoot this morning using my longbow. It was a perfect day for shooting 38 F and pissing down sleet. But, I still had a great time. Shot with 2 of the areas best recurve shooters. Boy did I learn alot. We did a little shooting inside before we ventured out. Looked at my form made a few suggestions and a couple of the problems I was having cleared up. Have to remember to keep my shoulder up and repeat a consistent anchor...duhh! Then they did a very, very, very evil thing.....they let me shoot their recurves:D Now some may laugh but I never shoot a recurve, started out straight with a longbow. Well I have to admit I really shot them well. One was a brazillian rosewood Fedora and the other was a custom Pink Ivory riser model (John our shooting partner made it himself). Both were stunning to look at. They both laughed and had an evil smile and started wispering about converting another one:D. I was the only longbow shooting and I held my own. Now Chad close your eyes, I used my Selway. It is 51 # instead of 57# like my Crusader. Figured the cold and wet would get me. Only lost 2 arrows in the snow and missed 5 targets. Funny thing was they were easy targets. The others laughed because I got the hard ones:) One of the shooters in my group won the trad division. I didn' t come in last. I think only because most people didn' t finish...lol I' m an addict now. They said they would bring more recurves for me to shoot next week.....help meeeeeeeeeeee!

RFLMAO Sounds normal I went from compounds to longbows ( started having fun again ) Then got my hands on my first recurve ( really started having LOTS of fun ) and I will never look back. Congrats on trying out the 3-d course still gotta do that myself but my bows will probably never see wet weather unless it is for hunting;) Sounds like you had a blast

I shot my first 3-D tournament today also--my first this year anyway;). It was cool, windy, and cloudy--wore an insulated shirt the first round (shot 14 targets twice) and sweated, so shot in a t-shirt the second round (prob. have the flu now). I would have gotten 1st, but I didn' t compete--just shot for fun. I scored a 191 out of a possible 280 (well, some of the targets had 12 rings). Not great, but respectable considering the course--some shots I have no idea how we squeeked an arrow though on, some you had to lean way out to shoot, some targets sitting in front of big trees or on the edge of big gulleys (incentive to hit the target, but intimidating as all get-out), all shots 20-25 yds +, etc. One of the regulars at the club (he didn' t compete either) shot a 186, I believe--I just wanted to beat him--lol. The " winning" score was in the 140' s, if that gives you any idea of the degree of difficulty on this one--it was a bugger! (I loved it) There were very few shots I would have taken on a live animal, but it sure is fun with 3-D!

CT, you should have taken your Crusader and let the recurve shooters try it out--when they grow up, they will be shooting a longbow! lol I admit, I started out in traditional with a recurve. Now, even though I can shoot one fairly decent, they just don' t feel right to me. My son is currently shooting a recurve, but that is because he outgrew his last longbow and I haven' t gotten him a new one yet--lol.

I actually did bring the Crusader, but my truck was parked so far from the clubhouse due to snow, I didn' t want to spend any more time in the sleet to go get it. I know I' m a wimp, but 1.5 hours in sleet is well just plain stupid. Funny thing. We started out shooting behind 4 compounds. They all dropped out by the 4th target...lol. The only people left out on the course when we were shooting were trad guys. Does that make us stupid or just plain lovers of the sport;):D:D

Hey CT Bowhunter, what ever you do, don' t and I repeat don' t pick up a Chekmate recurve [:o]. You will be calling Chad with a new order:D and not for a longbow;). Don

Congrats CT. And you thought ' curves were from the dark[>:] side of the force when all along it was the other way around. ;)

Hey, Dave, is that what John was writin about when he said a Light shone in darkness and the darkness comprehened it not? ;) Of course it wasn' t but it seemed fitting.
