Reverse Handle Longbow

I just ran into a new term, for me, reverse handled longbows. From what I can tell they have the laminations for the limbs on the belly side of the bow rather than on the back side as is traditional.

What are the benefits and the shortcomings of a reverse handled bow? My T/D recurve, ChekMate Firebird, is what I would call a reverse handle recurve. The limbs are on the belly side, too! One benfit I have noticed, is the 56" bow draws awfully smooth for my drawlength, 28", and is advertised to be stackfree up to 30" with little if any fingerpinch. Would a reverse handle longbow have the same benefits?

Thanks!

Bill

my partner has a black swan reverse handle lb. Man we couldnt get squat to fly from it. I built up a dz 50-55's for my partners wife and we all hit the range one monday nite. I had a itch to try it. I snatched her hole quiver of arras and proceeded to shoot that bow as well as I shot my crusader 10 of 12 in the white or touching the rest in the next ring! Man I was SHOCKED LOL! I tried snagging it from him...ya right, LOL! dunno what it does as far as performance. If you have seen some of Howard Hills photos you will se one where he is shootin backwards with a reverse handled longbow, I believe it was overseas doing some trick shots.

The reverse handle is also supposed to decrease tork. We had a Northern Mist at work that was a reverse handle. Shot ok, but the grip was flat and square with no padding. I didn't like that too much, but with a good leather pad it would have been ok. I wouldn't buy one for the sole reason that every yahoo that looks at one says " son, ya got yer bow strung backwards." That is what all the customers said to me.

Tox,

Dare to be different. If the bow shoots well for you, who cares what other people say. Everytime I take my CM Firebird to the Archery Shop, people ask be how I like my Black Widow? I just smile and say "It shoots great and I love it!"
