Hey Greg

Here is what I have done with the timble you brought over.

This is going to be your riser. I will get it glued up and rough cut over the week end.

Have a look at Paduak and Yellow Heart for the limb lams, I think they will go well with the riser;)

Just to get an idea of how the timber is going to look.

I just rough sanded a off cut of the riser and gave it a coat of poly.

Should look real good when finished properly don't yathink?

Careful not to make varnished firewood out of it...don't forget to ventilate the area too! Last thing we need is you hammered on varnish!:D

Actually I think walnut or mahogany will match better since there is a piece of each in the riser. One of those with the yellowheart will work well.

Hey Greg at least Russ learned alot on his first bow so yours should workout better for him, should look good when done!;)Russ you must have huffed that stuff along time ago...being 5 foot nuthin tall already!:D

RE: Hey Greg

I think for a first bow he did a great job. I really don't know much about longbows but it is a good looking bow. It drew smoothly although I did draw it with some hesitation. We were in Russ's livingroom and I really didn't know what to expect. I'm really looking forward to seeing mine as a finished product.

True for a prototype it did comeout looking good,so yours will be even mobetta! Just don't let Frodo know he's doing good...imagine a LARGE head on a 5 foot frame(I'll catch grief from him on this)!

I might only be 5' tall but that still makes me head and shoulders taller than you limp lizard.

Yellow heart and paduka is a good contrast. I made a riser once with yellow heart, purlple heart and maple. All vertical press rather than horizontal pressed. It was real cool. I think ill have to do it agian. I just hate working with purple heart. Only wood harder is iron wood or ebony. Which are real cool woods too, but are a killer on your machines.;)

Kent.

Thats what I suggested to Greg but he wanted them on the horizontal something about bad knees or something to that effect:D

The next one I make after Greg's I am going to do the riser vertical.;)

Yep. With that kind of color contrast, vert. is the way to go.

You're braver than I am... I didn't draw it back much, I didn't bring my football helmet with me. :D
That's why I stick to knife making! :D
