New 'curve and an arrow question...
After much procrastination, a Bear Kodiak Magnum came home with meyesterday. I need to get arrows. Because I'm new at this and will destroy many arrows, I'm going with aluminum. I'm guesstimating my drawlength to be 25" (I'm 26.5" w/ a compound). At 25" the scale reads 45lbs for this bow. I'd like keep to keep the arrows a little longer like, 27", just for my peace of mind. Any suggestion what size arrow I should start with? Oh yeah, the required pics:D:

You want to get some 1916's or 1816's. I am leaning towards 1916's, since I believe that bow is centercut, and two since your already an experienced archer and it won't take long for you to be shooting 25.5 to maybe 26". Your doing the smart thing starting at 27" arrow. Good news about aluminums, they can easily be heated and insert removed and cut and insert put back in with Ferr'l tite. Its great glue for alums.
My wife shootsa 40lb recurve at 27" draw and shoots 1916's great. |

I was also thinking 1816's. But I have always found that weaker then suggested spines work better for me. It could be my style of release though.

RE: New 'curve and an arrow question...
I wouldn't worry about trying to get perfect flight/tuning just yet. You will be changing things as you develop your form, and that's what you will need to work on first. You may make changes that would change the arrow spine you need.
Good luck! Chad |
