Can't take the credit for that. But the bow was 68#'s at 27", 190 grain Grizzly. 20 yards.

ORIGINAL: Chris W. I've used a few different brand of 2 blade heads over the last 11 years. Magnus, zwickey, ace, grizzly and zephyr to name a few. All have performed as they should with no issues in durability, except for the hitting of a big rock once or twice. I haven't notice any difference in penetration with the different heads. The vast majority have been pass thru's with the exception of the ones that hit the off side shoulder or leg bones. On whitetail deer, I wouldn't be too concerned about any difference in penetration between single bevel and double bevel heads. Any of the heads I mentioned above will serve you well, if you keep them sharp and place the arrow where it needs to go. |

I've been using 125-grain Ace Standards since 2004, and they've served me well on small game (squirrels, grouse, rabbits etc.), whitetails, elk, a 200# boar hog and a bull moose. You asked about bevels, so I'll just say this: I've never seen a reason to improve on a regular double-bevel head. I figure if I can put it through a 1/2-ton bull moose, what they heck more do I really need?

As far as durability: Here are three 125-grain Ace Standards.
Far left is a head I used for daily stump-shooting in the Colorado Rockies for a week and a half back in 2004. I couldn't begin to guess how many rocks I bounced it off. I still use it as a practice head, although with a few minutes and a file it'd be good to go again. The middle head is one I out throughthe vertebrae of an elk on that same trip (unintential shot location, by the way). As you can see, there's no damage whatsoever to the tip of the head. The far right head is one I put through the off-side shoulder of a whitetail buck in 2004. Shattered the knuckle where the upper leg bone attaches to the shoulder blade and never even dubbed the tip. I think I killed four more deer with that head before I finally lost it shooting at a squirrel or some such thing.  |

JRW-Those are some great pics and great bow kills! I have seen the Ace heads, but I didn't know anything about them. You have definitely given me another choice in my search. |
