Bowstringer question
 

I just bought an older recurve. I' ve been shooting a longbow and didn' t use a bowstringer.
Has anyone used the type that goes around your ankle, made of nylon and there is a space that the tip fits in. You use the step-thru method, just that the tip is in this loop and is free. Are these safe or are the tip to tip, long ones, that you put your foot on and pull on the handle safer?

I don' t know anything about the one you are describing, but I would think the tip to tip would be safer than one involving a step through application.

If you' re going to use the step through method why even use a stringer? I really like the selway stringers. I use to use the stringers made by Neet, but they always seemed to fall into the string groove before I could get the string in there.

I have one like you described (that straps to your ankle)--got it with a bow I bought several years ago. It allows you to use the step-through method without twisting a limb--no torque since the bow can move within the loop. I think one is as good as the other, just depends on your preferance. I would like to know who is selling them though--mine is the only one I have seen, aside from a friend who got a bow from the same bowyer I did.

I got it from Ben Graham, the bowyer who makes Hummingbird bows. www.hummingbirdbows.com
He sells them, I believe. I don' t know who makes them. A fellow who has been published in Trad. Bowhunter Mag. said they are very safe and won' t put out an eye, either. He let me know, today.
