Do You Unstring Your Bow After Shooting?
I just got my first recurve and wanted to know if I should unstring it after shooting or leave it strung in my soft case or just hang it?

I haven't unstrung mine in probably 3 years. I know I should unstring it more but so far it hasn't hurt anything. I've been shooting the same recurve for 13 years and its been unstrung twice so far. Is it a bad practice on my part? Maybe but so far nothings went wrong yet.

RE: Do You Unstring Your Bow After Shooting?
My main recurve stays strung for days, somtimes weeks at a time. I shoot quite often and don't see the need to for all the stringing and unstringing. I've done that with several of my bows over the year without issue. My selfbow does get unstrung immediately after use, but it's a different creature than a glass laminate bow. Also, anytime I travel with a bow, it gets unstrung for the trip.

I unstring my selfbow osage longbow every few hours. But will leave my glass backed longbow and recurves strung for a week or so. I like to unstring them. They fit better on my bow rack. For a fiberglass job, I wouldn't worry one way or another.

Selfbow is only strung when I'm shooting it. The rest usually only get unstrung when travelling, or putting a new string on.
Store it properly, shouldn't have any problems. Two things to consider though--don't have it where kids can get to it, or where a mouse might chew through the string (heard of that happening once). Chad |

Longbows and selfbows, yes I unstring after every use. My recurves, no.
