RE: How do you position your fingers on the string???
3 below for me.......I just started that way with no real plan about it other than the sight picture fit my eye better. I have heard guys like Rick Welch and Rod Jenkins say that they feel 3 under is the superior string hold for accuracy? Me I don't know and better, but it sure does allow me to get on target faster, and "see' the trajectory better. I'm a mess trying to shoot split finger.

RE: How do you position your fingers on the string???
I started on a bow two short, that caused finger pinch. So I moved to 3under. I couldn't go now to split if I wanted to. I wish, I started out with a 64-66" longbow and split. Split is quieter, and generally most used bows sold are tillered for split. But hey, I am doing ok. I tried split the other day and hit so high it was unreal.

I shoot split with a pretty short bow. 56" Recurve. It does pinch a bit but I've gotten used to it.

3 under. |
RE: How do you position your fingers on the string???
I've experimented with both and decided I'm most consistant with 3 under w/ my 60" longbow and 60" recurve.

Split here--never even considered putting three fingers under the nock when I was getting started (self-taught).

I'm a gap shooter and shooting 3 under makes that a lot easier at typical hunting ranges..

What's the advantage of split over 3 under if any?

RE: How do you position your fingers on the string???
As a 3-under shooter, here is what I find to be the bad. One, most bows you buy out there are tillered split, meaning you will have to raise your nock point 1/8" and that may not sound like alot, but if you switch back and forth between different bows, your POI can change. 3 under generally is louder than split. On some bow, you may not be able to completely get rid of fishtailing with 3 under. Depending on anchor, you might have to tilt you head more with 3 under. Its impossible to pinch the arrow shooting 3 under. And it feels good 3 under.
With split your force is generally equal behind the arrow. If you have two nock points as I suggest your nock is not being pinched like 3 under. Bad part about split, is arrow is further from the eye and head tilt may become more critical. I started out 3 under and would have a difficult time changing now. It works however well. |

Before releases I shot my compound split.
When I got back into trad shooting I attempted 3 under. Tried & tried to make it work. Got decent enough, but it never felt natural. Finally a few months back I returned to split and I see no looking back. |
