Traditional Carbons (updated w/ pic)
I'm looking to set up my longbow and recurve with a wood grain pattern carbon shaft this year. 55#, 30" shaft length (29" draw). Any suggestions out there?

RE: Traditional Carbons
I like the Gold Tip Traditionals.........You'll probably want 5575's?
ANyway you can get the Gold Tip weight system and nock adaptersfor them and the weight tool which will allow you to mix and match pretty much any tip or nock end weight you want to play with finished arrow weight and help fine tune arrow spine. It's REALLY a slick little deal and allows you to easily adapt your arrows to a pretty wide variety of bows, heads and potential game. |
RE: Traditional Carbons
I hate to admit this and it hurts.:D But I am not shooting carbons out of my 60# zipper recurve. And hate to admit but they are awesome.
On Matt/PA recommendation, I bought Gold tip Trad hunters. Looks just like the real thing. I am using the gold tip wieght setup where you can add wieght to the front or rear to tune the arrow to the bow. My current setup is 5575's with nock adaptor (to screw in back weight) 30" with 20gr wieght up front shooting 200gr head, and 50gr brass wieght in back, for 14% FOC and 600gr total arrow wieght. for your bow, I suggest the same arrow, but recommcnd the weight system. Just bare shaft tune it at 20 yards, and add or decrease wieght as needed for good arrow flight. Also with teh wieght system, you can add wieght to both front and back equally to add arrow weight which has always been the problem with carbons and trad bows. |
RE: Traditional Carbons
I like the carbon express ones. I've bounced and shot them off walls & all sorts of things and have yet to break one.
Depending on how much weight up front the 150's would probably work for you. If you are loading up the front, then probably 250's. I shoot a 60# r/d longbow and use the 250's with 200gr up front 29". But I also have a bow cut a little past center. |
RE: Traditional Carbons
I just ordered a half dozen GrizzlyStik Alaskans from AK Bowhunter's Supply and some 5" barred shield cut feathers to go with them. I'll let you know how they do. http://www.alaskabowhunting.com/Griz...Shafts_C19.cfm

RE: Traditional Carbons
The Beman MFX classic is a good arrow andhas a nice wood grain finish.
I smirked just a bit when I read the title of yourpost. If you'd posted that term "Traditional Carbons"about 10 years ago, it would haveruffled some folks feathers. :D It's good to see how things have changed. |

RE: Traditional Carbons
I broke from my idea of a wood grain shaft but these things have always intrigued me and I had forgotten about them until I made this post. They're about the same price as my SuperSlims (except that I don't get them at wholesale[&:]). Now all I have to do is screw one of his $25 Silver Flame broadheads on there http://www.alaskabowhunting.com/Silv...ads_P81C15.cfm and I'll never have to worry about packing game out again. I'll be too worried about losing a $35 arrow to let one fly...

RE: Traditional Carbons
yeah holy crap.......[:-]LOL
Go big or go home right? I like your style. :D Seriously I like the feeling that my shafts are functional. and disposable at the same time. I shoot more, practice more and try dumb crap that I hope will make me a better shot. Hopefully you won't limit practice for fear of damaging or losing them because the best practice is out in the woods shooting 3Ds and extending your effective range a bit. Nice choice though. |
RE: Traditional Carbons
It's only money, they'll print more. ;):D:D They are getting big bright fletchings and wraps on them though!
