Two vanes and one feather.

Anyone ever try this. Basicaly use the feather for anywhere it may strike a shelf or rest and the vanes for the other two. Seems you'd get the best of both worlds somewhat. No problems in the wet.

The biggest problem I'd see is finding simalar vanes and feathers.

So has anyone tried it?

I haven't tried it, but a fellow I talked to in Canada does that on a regular basis. Rains a lot where he hunts--he said they work just fine.

Chad,

At the a bunny hunt a few years ago a guy told me about people out in rainy areas doing it. Sounds like it would be a good solution to trying to waterproof the feathers. I don't hunt to much in rain but like to be out if I want to be out. Rain or not.

I may have to try some.

Do you put the vanes on with the same amount helical as the feathers?

Haven't tried it but I would think you'd have to.

Interesting. I have not seen that. All I do to prevent the feathers from colapsing in rain is to spray them with silicon. Besides, I live in Texas, we dont get rain.:D

Yes--the same amount of helical. You want the fletchings working together.

I asked because I've fetched arrows with vanes using a helical. Vanes love to come back to the straight position. The glue has to be completely dry before removing them from the jig. I never had much luck with the tape for some reason.
