Help with selecting a hunting weight recurve.
Hi there, I'm in the market to get another recurve. I would like to get a recurve that is legal hunting weight (+40lbs) at my drawlength, which is 24". No more than 44-45lbs. What poundage bow should I select? Oh and if anyone has some suggestions for a good hunting recurve for a short draw archer, feel free to make suggestions:) Thanks in advance

most recurves decrease 3lbs per inch so a #57@28 would be 45 @24 their are alot of good recurves for short draws. It all depends on whether you want a custom bow or not.(it sometimes takes a year to get one). their are some production bows that might work like the martin rebel or the bear supermag48. As far as poundage goes, anthing over 40 will do fine on deer. I got a passthrough on a doe last year with a #45 bear kodiak hunter at 20 yards with a magnus 2 blade head.

the traditional archery nationals are in Cloverdale IN in June I believe. There are a ton of used and new bows there and you can take them out and shoot them usualy. Plus a ton of Trad people. If you can wait that long or don't find something at The expo its worth the trip. I try to get up there every year. Any trad stuff you need will be there. |

Where are you located?? The PBS Banquet is March 27 to the 30th here in Pittsburgh. We'll have a vendor booth there along with 20 other bowyers. The Bowyers Journal Eastern Traditional Expo is April 11,12,13 in St. Clairsville OH. Plenty of used bows listed on the Leatherwall and tradgang as well.

With a draw weight as short as yours (I'm assuming your arm lengthare fully grown), you may want to go the custom route. Bost bows are made for a 28" draw (they will give max performance). I'd suggest taking a look at Chek-Mate.Their bows are I would say are the best value out there. That way you could get the limbs working at yourdraw much better.

If you are new to the game, dont get a hunting bow right off. Get a lighter bow to learn, then move up as you progress. If you start pulling more weight than you can handle, you will develope some very bad habits.
