ANYONE TRY A THUMB RING?
 

Looking at the posts on tabs vs gloves and started wondering if anyone outside the horsebow crowd ever tried to use a thumb ring release. Seems like it would make for a clean release and would be easier on the fingers. I see them for sale on thesite that sells hungarian built horsebows but nowhere else. Anyone ever try one?Anyone see any pros or cons with using one? If it worked for the mongol horde maybe its worth the twenty bucks to try it out. Thanks for any comments. take care.

Every once in awhile you run into a 'kicks and giggles' shot at a traditional 3D shoot. Couple of years ago, they had one target where you had to shoot your bow opposite handed. Right handers shot lefty, lefties shot righty. Everyone else in my group was trying to rest the arrow on their thumb on the opposite side of the bow and generally screwing up. It was pretty funny. :D

I, on the other hand, had just read an article in Traditional Bowhunter about thumb rings. So, throwing caution to the winds ;), Iusedthe Asianthumb release because it let me keep the arrow on the shelf.I was the only shooter that day that managed a 10on that target. After that shoot, I came home and made myself a couple of leather thumb rings and started playing around with it some. Never got very serious about itbut it's a pretty cool technique to know.

Okay, I give up. I keep seeing this post and I've gotta ask... what the heck is a thumb ring and what does it look like?

A thumbring fits on the thumb(obviously).The string goes into the deep part where the thumb meets the hand and the index finger gets folded over the thumb-the rest of the fingers are in a closed-fist position.The arrow is then shot off the right side of the riser(if right-handed).At least that is how the horse bows are shot.
The thumb ring can be made from bone,leather,plastic,jade,silver,etc
