Anyone shooting a Mahaska Bow?
Hey Guys
Just started getting getting into Traditional archery about a year ago and decided to buy a custom bow made to fit me and my shooting style.I wanted to know if anyone had or shot a Mahaska bow and how did it perform. Thanks Gobblin |
RE: Anyone shooting a Mahaska Bow?
Never owned one(yet)but have shot quite a few.My buddy has a recurve that shoots real nice.Kent makes a beautiful bow at a great price. They're not blazingly fast but they're very smooth-shooting bows.

RE: Anyone shooting a Mahaska Bow?
I have a Mahaska recurve that was specially made with Arroya limbs and Catclaw riser. It is as forgiving as a longbow, and very quiet. They have a rep for not being fast, but they like lighter arrows. Mine is 54@29 and shoots a 2016-500gr @ 172fps. Mine is feather light.

RE: Anyone shooting a Mahaska Bow?
I've a Mahaska longbow 62" 53# @ 27" with bubinga riser and red elm limbs. It's a real hard hitting bow. You won't have to worry about getting pass throughs on deer with this bow, I've gotten pass throughs on my Burly Deadstop. No joke. Since I didn't see the arrow sticking out of the target I thought I missed, but I knew I heard it smack the target. It had went far enough through to keep the 5" fletching and nocks inside the target. Sometimes I notice a little bit of handshock, but my arrows are pretty light too-right around 550grns. If you go with a heavier arrow you may not notice as much. I haven't chornographed it to know how fast it shoots, but I don't really need to. If this bow is quick enough to take out squirrels, then it's fast enough. 'Nuff said! <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle> Brandan |
RE: Anyone shooting a Mahaska Bow?
Gobblen,
Get in touch with John Nail. He has his Mahaska recurve up for sale. It sounds like it would be very pretty and a good performer with the wood combos he has. You wouldn't have to wait to have one built. Bill Praise the Lord, He is worthy |
