how do I detemine spine?

I want to make the switch to wooden arrows, and not sure what my spine group would be. I have a 27in (maybe slightly less) draw and a 50# (slightly less) bow. Not sure how to determine my spine group. any help appreciated. thanks.

you need to know your exact draw length and weight. from the sounds of it you need a 50-55# spine rated shaft. but then you also throw in the weight of your point and that can also move you up or down a spine rating.

To tell you the truth, I would call either the bow maker,or the arrow maker that you are going to use. You'll get a lot of different answers here. Even then depending on your release, you'll have only a starting point.

Alot of factors involved--FF capable,center shot,point weight,draw length

Take it to a bow shop.my shop has a rig that figures it all out.they put the bow in the rig and put a scale on your string and pull down on it to your draw length and presto you have your correct spine.

I'd be very careful with something like that. To me, all that could be found by pulling a string back is draw weight.

For trad bows, I get the shaft that is closest to the weight of the bow at my draw lenght. I have them cut on the long side so I can cut them down. I then bare shaft test them agianst fletched ones. I then adjust length to the head I want to use. I do this with wood, carbon or alluminum. Havent used wood in year, many many years, but that is how I do it.
