I'm clueless & need help...
I'm thinking about making my own arrows. Where do I begin? What do I need to do this? From A-Z I need to know.
Thanks :) |
RE: I'm clueless & need help...
local hardware store and buy cedar wood for them or other wood

You'll need a jig w/clamps,adhesives,feathers or vanes. That'll get you started.

RE: I'm clueless & need help...
When you say make your own, you mean fletch your own and glue in the inserts like aluminum or carbon? Or do you mean going out to a river bank and collecting cane and cutting and sorting, and straighening, and then collecting your own turkey feathers and cutting the feathers, you get the picture. Or just buying some cedar dowls, sealing, etc.
3rivers archery sells all you want for making wood or cane arrows. Primitive archer is a mag I get that generally goes the primitive arrow route. Lots of tips for straighening cane or knapping flint. |

Take one of these ![]() + one of these ![]() + a little of this ![]() +sinew(tendons) from one of these ![]() the good thing is, the only tools you need if you dont already have them are a pocket Knife and a saw. the bad thing is it might take a long time to make a dozen arrows. hope this helped. |

No one here has the time or space to answer that rather broad question. You would be wise to do google search on the subject. You can find things like this. http://www.3riversarchery.com/product.asp?i=5060-1

I meant carbon & aluminum...Not sure why this got thrown into the traditional area. I need to buy a fletching machine, etc, not sure which kind to buy... and all the accessories that go with making your own arrows.
I usually go to my bow guy & he makes them for me. But, I thought I'd save some money by making my own. Thanks very much :) |

they will cut your arrows for you if you specify the length for 2 bucks a dozen if i remember right...just make sure you askif the arrows come with the inserts...i bought a dozen arrows one time and they didnt come with inserts. also they have the best prices for feathers....brand AAA diecut...cheap and justas good as truflight. they have cheap shipping too... |

Bitzenberger and JoJan are 2 of the best jigs.I like the JoJan-been using mine for over 10yrs now trouble free.Wherever you buy your shafts, they should cut them to length for free(most shops around me do this).I cut my own with a small cut-off saw.As for adhesives,I use Fletch-tite platinum most of the time.
You won't save alot of money at first being that you'll be laying out some cash to get started but the biggest advantage is you don't have to waste time or gas going to the bow guy to repair damaged fletches or build new arrows all the time |

RE: I'm clueless & need help...
you can get by with just a fletching jig, fletching cement and fletching if all you want to do is fletch your own shafts. if you want to cut them to length a saw, high speed for carbon ferrel tight for aluminum or an epoxy for carbon to put your inserts in and that about does it. i use a jo-jan mono-fletch and love it. it puts a nice helicle on my shafts and they fly like darts.
