Stand Back!!!!
 

Ok everybody, if you dont want feathers glued on you, you better stand back. My order finally arrived. I got all my feathers, nocks, and points, as well as my brand spanking new Arrow Specialties Arrow Crester. I am about to let the pieces fall where they may.
I will let you all know shortly if it is possible to gasket lacquer over top of Lacquer Spray painted crowns. Wish me luck. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

It aint that hard, really. A few details to watch, but with a little practice you will have it whupped. Next time we go on a moose hunt together (and if I have any say in it, we will!) we are gonna' put the double whammy on a big bull!

Btw, have to talked to Brian and/or Webber lately? Ain't heard form either of them on a while.

You all are gonna have to wait until morning to find out about the gasket lacquer. I decided, as long as Im experimenting, I might as well go whole hog. I did a little cresting with Testors paint, and Im gonna go over the top of that too. I am gonna let the Testors dry until morning, then apply gasket lacquer. The crests dont look too bad, for a beginner. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

LBR, I haven't seen either of those knuckle heads in about a week. Brian is now a day shift worker, and Web-man is still trapping like a mad man. Web is hoping for a good year of trapping, something about needing a new bow from a redneck or something like that. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Ok, I just got done putting the gasket lacquer on my first batch of shafts. The word &quot;Ugly&quot; comes to mind. The Testors paints smeared BAAAAAD, but only on the first coat. The first coat must have protected the second and third coat.
The spray lacquer crown had minimal smear, but it still smeared a little bit. Im wondering if I could have used something to protect the crests and crown before dipping them?
That gasket lacquer is some gooey stuff. Maybe if I use my &quot;Little Dipper&quot; and give the crowns and crests a quick once over, instead of having them in contact with the lacquer for the full time to dip the whole shaft would have made a difference. Heck what do I know. I bet the shafts will still shoot, even in they are ugly. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Kip, Try it the other way around. Dip the shafts in gasket lacquer, crown dip with white or yellow gasket lacquer, crest with the testors, and then use a spray lacquer over the top while rotating the shaft in your cresting machine. Go light with the spray. Dick

Thanks Dick, I'll give that a try. I am also told now that if I were to use water based paints, that wouldn't have happened. I guess experimenting is half the fun, right?
I still have 18 test shafts to build yet. I build the 55-60 spined shafts first, and they aren't stiff enough. Next up will be the 60-65's.

One more thing. I don't like Testors for cresting. I go to an auto paint supplier and buy small amounts of lacquer tints. It dries a lot faster and it's very compatable with Gasket lacquer. Finish it with a light spray of lacquer after cresting. Dick
