Dick, I was thinking about the auto paints. The only thing I am worried about is, when the gasket lacquer hits the lacquer paint, wont it make it smear? The Testors in enamel paint, maybe thats the difference?
I am currently letting some water based cresting dry, and I am going to gasket lacquer that tomorrow. I'll let you know if that works, or fails miserably.
I had everyone at the hardware store scatchin' their heads the other day on what would work. They were even calling the paint companies, and they didnt have a clue as to what I should use.
Trial and Error, take 26. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Ok Dick, now that I went back and read your posts a little closer, I may have noticed a problem. I am cresting the arrows first, then using the gasket lacquer. My way of thinking is, if I crest first, and then gasket lac, I seal the whole thing up in one step. Am I trying to rush it? I was hoping to do away with the spray lacquer at the end.
If I dont drive ya nuts, I dont know who will. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Kip,
Lacquer will always smear if you use the squeege system. The spray is the only thing that has worked for me. remember, lacquer will go over any finish but nothing works over lacquer. Also remember to spray the ends of your arrows after tapering. They will be less suseptable to moisture. Gasket lacquer will crack if moisture gets under the finish. Good Luck, Dick

Hey Dick, it worked!!!!!! I just got home from work, and decided to try to gasket lac the arrows that I crested with the water based paints. It worked PERFECT. Not a bit of smearing anywhere on the arrow.
I used the Delta paint from the craft section of Walmart. It was 87 cents per bottle, and there were a million and one colors to choose from. I still got one set of test shafts to make up, so I'll really go hog wild on these ones, and see if I can get it to smear at all.
