Spine light or heavy
My arrows are hitting target at angle. They are striking target and knock is 2 to 3 inches to left from center. I also noticed it gets worse with repeated shots. I shoot into a layered foam target. They are carbon express terminators 4560. I am shooting 55# recurve with 29" arrows. I use 5 inch helical fletch true flight feathers. I also use 100 grain field tips and broadheads. I was considering going with cedar.

The best tuning information I know of on the 'net is at www.bowmaker.net . Describes it better than I can.
My guess is you are underspined if you are a right handed shooter, but there could be more to it than that. Chad |

RE: Spine light or heavy
before you go to cedar, try switching your point weight. a couple packs of points is alot cheaper than a new batch of arrows. on the other hand, i shoot cedar and love the way it flies. if you do switch to cedar, try shooting a tapered shaft. if you do this you may have to move up a spine size.

RE: Spine light or heavy
My arrows are hitting target at angle. They are striking target and knock is 2 to 3 inches to left from center. So, first thing I'll recommend is to doublecheck your brace height. If it's snuck down too low it can really play havoc with your arrow flight. Then you added inthis bit... I also noticed it gets worse with repeated shots. So, my recommendations. Check your brace height. Make sure to not be machine gunning your arrows at the target. Take at least 30 seconds between shots to let your muscles recover, and be sure to draw fully on each shot. Just for grins, try some 125 gn tipsand see if they make your arrow flight better or worse. |
RE: Spine light or heavy
Went with some goldtip 5570 at 29.5 inches and seems to be doing alot better. typically when I start tiring my grouping becomes eratic at best LOL.

RE: Spine light or heavy
First you are shooting into a multi layered foam target and then assessing your arrow flight. No two arrows will be sitting the same, I also have a multi layer target, and have for years.
First, increase your point weight to 150 - 170 grains, I shoot the same arrow, same length but use a Longbow. How are your arrow flying to the target, are they flying straight or is the tail off to one side, I suspect the later due to point weight. have you shot your current set up with a broadhead on there? that will tell you real fast if you are underor overspined. |
