My technique: do others shoot like this?
Hello friends and may you have a blessed day. I have been reading other hunters suggestions about the proper instinctive shooting technique and I am not sure my own is among them. I have read of snap shooting and gap shooting but niether of those techniques seem to fit my method. I draw to my anchor point and aim till it feels right in my mind, then I release. It sounds wierd when I put it into words but that is as close a description I can make. I do not concentrate on a specific gap nor do I just pull up an release in one smooth motion. Am I alone?

Sounds similar to the way I used to shoot. Now I raise my bow, pick my spot, and try to visually burn a hole in it before I ever draw. Then I draw, come to a solid anchor (usually 1-3 seconds--not very long, but not a snap shot), release, and follow through. One thing that helps me that seemed to take me forever to realize that I must COMPLETELY follow through--that includes remaining focused on the target after the release. Seems to help me out a lot.

I shoot like LBR described. I too used to draw, aim, release. I also tried the snap shooting for awhile. I have settled in to looking at my "spot", raising bow arm, drawing the bow, anchor a few seconds, and release, then follow through. I also have started holding my bow nearly vertical. This has helped a lot with any left/right problems I sometimes had. I do practice canting my bow all the way to horizontal cause you never know what type shot you will get.

I shoot kind of like you. Shooting instinctivly is a very personal thing and always hard to put into words isn't it. I like to bring my bow up, but not all the way (just enough that if a deer was in front of me I wouldn't have to move that far to draw back but low enough to have a good sight window over the bow). Then lock my elbow, and get my grip right. Next I focus on the spot I want to hit and start raising my bow all the way while I draw back. Then I anchor for a few seconds until it feels right, then release and follow through. I've shot a few different ways over the years but I have decided that this is the best method for me.

I also shoot very similar to what you described. I raise my bow and draw at the same time. I tried raising my bow first to get a clear picture through my sight window before drawing, but it seemed to just throw me off. I anchor, hold my anchor for 1-2 seconds until my "aim" feels right and release. One of the hardest things for me is remembering to follow through without dropping my bow arm prematurely.
