Wing feathers.

RE: ? on feathers for arrow building
I use the wing feathers for my target and hunting arrows. The tail feathers are really too soft/weak, but make great flu flu feathers!

Yep, the primary wing feathers are the prefered feather, but I've used the secondary feathers for my bamboo arrows and they fly well, but don't last near as long.
Make sure that you use either all right wing or all left wing when you fletch up your arrows. If you're using a jig and want some helical in the fletching, make sure that you use right wing for right helical and left wing for left helical. Make em sharp and shoot em straight, or leave em home. |

Definately the primaries--the 7 or 8 longer, stronger, stiffer, better colored feathers on the wing. I have used secondaries for flu-flu's, but they don't last very long for regular fletchings and are (in my opinion) just too soft. I don't care for goose feathers for the same reason.

I use primary wing feathers-all left wing because that's just what I prefer to use.I only get about 3-4 off the wing.I use the ones that have the highest oil line on the feather-they seem to last a bit better IMO.
