I'm new to the forum (today) and wanted to say hi, tell a little about myself, and ask a question.
Hi.
I've been bowhunting for about 27 years and 3 years ago switched over to traditional equipment. I shoot a 68" Dan Quillian longbow drawing 72 lbs @ 28". I shoot compressed cedar shafts and Wenzel Woodsman broadheads. As luck would have it, I lost my lease that permits bowhunting so I haven't actually shot anything with it except my Black Hole target.
My Questions is: Does anyone on this forum use an atlatl? I'm fixing to get one for my birthday and am looking for a few helpful hints. I'm buying one from Traditional Atlatls instead of trying to build my own.

Welcome to the forum! I've had some interest in the atlatl, but never even tried to throw one myself. I've heard of demonstrations, but never been lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. I only know of one state where they might be legal to hunt with (in AL, during spear season), but I think they would be fun just to learn to throw. Let us know how it goes.

Hey everyone. I was wondering if one or all of you guys could help me. I hunt small game with my 49 inch long recurve ( is that to small on a 5"11 person?Tell me)which has a 25 pound draw weight .I can easily take down rabbits, birds, and waterfowl with it at least 20 yards. But i was wondering if i could , if possible, hunt whitetail doe's with my bow if i got in range and if i changed my broadhead out to like one of those Eskimo broadheads. I didnt think it would be posiiblle but i wanted to see what experienced traditional bowhunters thought, if i could do it, hunt a deer with a small bow thats light?????/

Here in Texas a minimum of 40 pounds of draw weight is required by law to hunt deer. Check your local regs. I personally don't think 25#s would be enough to be SURE you could make a clean kill.

Yeah I guess I will stick to small game, not much thrill hunting as big game but at least my bow can hunt something. My bow is kitty, I might step it up alot and purchase a Medieval Hunstman Longbow with a 50# and "72 inches long. It only cost $119 on 3riverarchery.com (great website for traditional). Then I could hunt deer, but I like compact bows (im not trying to say compound) but bows that are small but are still traditional because a 72" longbow on a 5"11 person is really big. But at least I can hunt small, meduim, and large game (if i got that bow), rather than my small bow which can only hunt small game. If anyone has shot the Medeival Hunstman bow (primitive) then please tell me. Im gonna get it, probally. Or I could make my own bow. I do that alot but I make 55-60 inch long bows with a 25-35 pull, never a 72 inch monster bow!
