Changed my entire form again

I have been having issues lately with my anchor and shooting 3 under with a new dreamcatcher recurve. My thumb gets in my way, when shooting 3 under and using an anchor of my middle finger and my k-9 tooth.

I like to look down my shaft before drawing and slowly draw back holding steady. But when I get to my face, I become unsteady and have to settle into the shot, which can take 3-4sec. Then have to concentrate on my smooth release.

So I tried something new. It seems to be working out. I tried 3 under and using my cheekbone as anchor, but I was hitting way lower. I didn't want to relearn my shot. So I made another drastic change, and shot split finger. That way, I may be anchoring higher, but with split finger, my arrow is almost same POI as my 3 under approach with anchoring on my k-9.

I plan to still shoot my longbow 3 under but this recurve is not shooting well 3 under.

I hope this drastic change doens't mess me up.

Anybody else shoot different bows differently like this?

Personally, I don't shoot different bows differently.

Be careful with getting the anchor too close to the eye though. You can actually change your vision by getting too close. Try this, take just your index finger and place it at your anchor, focus on something far away, now shut the other eye andmove the skin back and forth at anchor. Does your vision shift at all? You can actually move your eye if it is too close.

Well, I practiced with this all weekend, so not too late to turn back. But I know my POI is different. Last night before dark, I couldn't see where my arrows were impacting at 25 yards.. When I retrieved them, I was hitting 6" high, but groups were tight (for me) at 4-5". What this tells me is,my subconsience, is actually compensating for hitting high at the first shot, and I don't shoot purely instintive. If I shoot split finger, arrow is still placed about the same place on my face as if I shoot 3 under.

I know doublecreek on here has the arrow really close like 1" under his eye.

Bob, where do you anchor? I thought the cheek bone was common place.

I think cheek bone is fairly common. However,it can be rather large. Hitting that one exact place onit, I personally find to be tough. Iused to anchor there for a while, but found to be in good alignment, my drawarm was too high.I didn't feel comfortable trying to keep that "t" formwith either arm with the high anchor.

Currently, I anchor mainly with the second finger in the corner of mymouth (upper bicuspid), and my index finger below my cheekbone. I have also found my thumb to be a bit clumsy and position it so it rests ontop of my index finger. Pinky is curled in.

Depending on your facial structure, this may or may not work for you, but it does for me.

I shoot split, with 3 anchor points. My forefinger is on an upper tooth, directly underneath my eye; my social (middle) finger is basically in the corner of my mouth, and my thumb lays tight up under my cheek bone. Having more than one anchor point helped me quite a bit.

I use the same anchor/split finger with every bow I shoot--never tried swapping around for different bows.

Here I go again. I get somewhat stable and always changing. For almost 2 years, and still don't feel good on my shots.

Well, I am back to my old setup. I shot last night and just can't find consistency with my cheekbone.

Aiming is the easy part, trying to find the form that works for you in the most fluid manner is the most dificult thing to do.Can't say that I'm there 100% either. But when you find it, don't change it (much).

Ever watch Terry Green shoot? You can find some clips of him over at tradgang.

I am beginning to think this multiple bow thing is not such a good idea. Stick with the longbow.

Maybe you guys can give some insight. One bad thing I see about shooting 3 finger under is you need two brass nok sets (or several wraps of serving, whatever). I found this out recently trying to tune my new recurve. If you don't, you can get inconsistent tears, I figure the arrow maybe slipping sometimes down or up.

But the bad part is with 3 under shooting, your nok sets cannot be tight against the nocks, cause when you pull the string back, you have an angle. Where split finger, you can. Does this make sense.

I have been 3 under shooting for over 2 years now. And am starting to see where 3 under has its limitations. I would like to change back to split finger, but basically have to start over mentally with my shot placement. All my shots are high.
