Song Dogs
 

Got up early this morning and took the coyote caller out to a farm with a reputation for having a few. It was warm enough(around freezing) but windy. I called for 4/5 min and then sat 1/2hr or so. Moved around and repeated, until it became obvious the 'yotes weren't out and about. A coyote with the longbow is something I havn't done yet. The day quickly turned into a stump-shoot and I managed to miss a squirrel.
Took the dogs later for quail....ain't winter grand!
Best part is, I have the next 11 days off work...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I also have those 11 days off and yesterday while out with my longbow I was fortunate to chase up a nice young buck while I watched him bound away while I stood there with a judo point tipped arrow ready to shoot. I know where he lives now. I have also been going out with my one year old Walker coon hound and my daughter at night coon hunting but for that I bring my Winchester .22 mag. This Song Dog hunting sounds like fun and I went to Radio Shack recently to price the speaker and the stuff to make me a yote caller. This is getting to be the best time of the year for me which is why I refused all that good money to work through this shutdown. Merry Christmas John and all you guys go outside and have some fun.

I doubt you can make one for that. Mine works fine.

Went to the local archery range this morning. We were shooting indoors and during a break I spotted a coyote in the grass field next to the clubhouse. We watched that dog hunt for mice for about 30 minutes before he caught one. Our club (Chicago Bowhunters) has 30 acres of woods but is located inside a subdivision in the center of town. The range is a wildlife preserve so there was no shooting at the dog. That dog looked FAT! He must be doing very well. It was fun watching him for that long. He really had a good time tossing that mouse around. I just may take my Double Bull blind out this winter and see what I can call in.

You'll find them as hard to shoot with a stickbow as anything you've hunted. They have everything going for them. Good luck!
