Rabbits
 

I've gotten pretty good at rabbit hunting and I'm always looking for a new way to hunt something. How many pound bow would I need for rabbit. I know that compounds need more than trad so I was thinking about 40.

40 would be enough but it doesnt hurt to go bigger

I'm shooting 45 lbs on my recurve . I was not happy with the performance of my blunt tips (I use these all the time with my compound , with good results) . I've actually been looking online recently for an easily sharpened 2 blade broad head . I have found several , but not decided on one yet . At this point , I'm thinking that the speed difference between a recurve and a compound is great enough to use TOTALLY different heads for the same game . I have dozens of rabbits under my belt with the compound . This will be my first full season of recurve rabbit hunting . I plan on taking a half dozen 2 blade broadheads into the field as well as a small fine tooth file (for feild shapening) . For whats it's worth - I swear by G5's SGH for varmints . I have shot squirells at less than 15 yrds and not got a pass-thru , I just don't think they will be as effective at lower speeds . My 2 cents says - Either use a blade ,,, or be more accurate than I am . Happy hunting .

those Magnus small game heads work pretty good...

If you have some old .38 Special brass and a Skil Saw blade laying around, you can make your own

I have hunted small game of all types over the years with traditional bows. I like judos best, however regular blunts work great. I usually hunt with the bows I deer and hog hunt with. Those run in the 60 - 70lb range. I have a couple of forty and fifty pound bows that I am going to try this year.

I use broadheads with washers behind them on rabbits when not using a dog. Broadheads and dogs are a poor combination. Safety first.....
